I utilize a systems approach to therapy, using my training in Structural Family Therapy, Relational therapy, Internal Family Systems, trauma model, and other modalities.
You are unique in all the world! There is no one just like you with your story or life. Your family, pets, friends, community--where you came from--what you have overcome and endured-all these make you the unique person you are. At some time you may wish to turn the page on your story. My therapy involves walking with you while you decide where you want to go from here--who the person is that you want to be--how you want your life and story to change. I will listen and challenge, support and invite you to learn new skills and growth.

I enjoy working with young children, teens, young adults & families. Many of my clients have struggled with issues like anxiety, depression, self injury, social skills, parenting, adoption, & adjusting to new situations. Parents/caregivers are welcome to join sessions if they desire (as clinically appropriate) as a way to learn skills along with their child/family. This helps support the skills learned within sessions & outside of sessions, when at home & in the community. This empowers the client & family & helps everyone feel like they are mastering the skills learned in sessions. I am supervised by a licensed PHD.

Are you struggling to make life work? Perhaps stuck in an addiction or habit that you can't seem to break. Are you struggling relationally? Do you wonder where God is in the midst of all your upset? No matter where life has taken you, there is hope for a brighter future. Life truly is amazing if you are willing to do the necessary footwork...and promise not to quit when the going gets tough. Healing can be a painful process but there is nothing like living in the freedom that comes as a result.

I have great respect for people deciding change is what they want for themselves and are willing to take action to bring about change. People are people first, and are not to be marginalized based on diagnosis or over generalization. My therapeutic perspective is to join people where they are in their lives and work together to create change based on individual values, goals, wants, and needs.

"I've often seen life as a big 'school room' in which the lessons can be fascinating, fun, sometimes frustrating, often difficult, and even traumatic. I feel privileged to have served a wide range of individuals and couples, gay, straight, young or old, as they have pursued their journeys toward health, recovery, balance and personal growth. I offer support and reflection, skill building and guidance as people confront and resolve their issues, doing so with as much love, compassion and humor as possible.

I believe that clients have within themselves an amazing ability to self-heal, and the role of the counselor is to find and tap into that ability. I also believe it is important to learn about each client's world and to develop a relationship where clients can feel understood and supported while learning about themselves. This creates the space for exploring the choices they have and any changes they may want to make toward more personal fulfillment. Therapy for children may involve consultation with parents who need support meeting their child's challenges. Play therapy is used with children.

It is my personal and professional belief that everyone is capable of discovering their most authentic and successful self, but may occasionally need assistance in their journey to personal enrichment. I have been lucky enough to find those people in my own life, and I consider it an honor to serve that purpose for my clients in a warm, welcoming, yet professional fashion. I respect the individual needs of varying cultural backgrounds, and enjoy finding common ground with varying clientele.

It is my belief that people need truth to be emotionally and spiritually healthy. But I believe that the truth needs to be compassionately delivered with a heart full of grace. My sincere hope is that encouragement is evident in my counsel, whether I am visiting with a troubled married couple or an 8 year-old child who has been the victim of abuse. The identified desire of the client is the target of the counseling sessions and my goal to help each individual, couple or family experience freedom.

My approach is eclectic, drawing from Relational therapy, Internal Family Systems and other models which take into account the body, mind and spirit.
I work to support people through depression and anxiety, difficult relationships, trauma and loss, PTSD, sexual orientation concerns, grief, and other challenging life transitions. Together we explore ways to shape a life rich with purpose and meaning. While I believe each of us carries the wisdom to create authentic and lasting change in our own lives, often access to this intuitive knowing is blocked or damaged. My goal to help you cultivate, restore, and strengthen the connection to your own inner knowing.

No matter how distressed you are by symptoms of anxiety or depression - or by relationship conflict - I will approach your problem in living as a unique growth opportunity. Initially, I may help you to reduce symptoms of distress. I teach mindfulness skills which enable greater access to feelings, sensations and thoughts. This becomes a tool for deepening relaxation and insight. I will focus on developing a solid working relationship with you compassionately, and with respect . Then we can work TOGETHER to to create a sense of direction, or a road map, in order to find a way back to 'better'.

The Mend method is heavily influenced by evidence based methods, relational psychotherapy, and existential psychotherapy.
Life is complicated. Let's figure it out. Accepting Clients In-Person & Online - It could be long-term depression or recent development in your life. You could be severely depressed or mildly so. Maybe you’re feeling stuck, lost, or empty. Maybe what used to work for you doesn't anymore. You're trying to make changes but it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe you're always feeling tired, exhausted, or generally bad about yourself. Perhaps you're high strung and having difficulty calming down. Therapy can truly help you find more meaning and happiness in your life.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
