I use an integrative approach that draws from various theories, such as person-centered, empowerment, and mindfulness.
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community myself, I have a profound understanding of the unique challenges and celebrations that come along when navigating this wonderfully diverse spectrum of identities. Although I have only walked parts of this path myself, I am intentional at creating a safe, affirming, and judgment-free space where you can be your authentic self. Having worked extensively with populations struggling with loneliness and isolation, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of human connection.

I use evidenced-based interventions such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Strength-based Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs) to address your concerns in a systematic way that helps to understand what you've been through and heal effectively from it.
Hi!  I'm Nicole.  I'm a Clinical Therapist specializing in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and trauma/PTSD with adolescents and adults.  I use a strength-based approach and cognitive-behavioral therapy to help my clients work towards their goals.  I'm passionate about seeing a client's confidence and self-advocacy skills grow as they realize their own potential. Reaching out for help can often be a challenging and scary experience.  That's why I offer my clients the room they need to explore their concerns with someone who is safe, compassionate, and understanding.

Globally, we have been and are going through a massive growth period. We can all feel it. We can feel quite hopeless, lost and stuck at times… our next steps seem difficult to find. It seems like there is a calling in there for each of us, a way that we're being called to grow and deepen, an opportunity. It might be to have a kinder relationship with ourselves and others; or to open up to trust, surrender and letting go; or to go a different direction than we've previously been heading. We are all being called in some way. It's our job to listen. It takes courage to listen and make changes. You are not alone.

These days, it feels like you’re always on edge. In truth anything can set you off, so many days end with quiet tears in your bed or completely losing it with your partner and family … again. Yet there are times you just feel so completely disconnected and empty: not sure if you care too much or too little. You probably hide it well, others may even look up to you but inside feel like a mess- overwhelmed and tired. Spending so much time worrying and overthinking about everything but nothing changes. You expect better from yourself, you've faced hard challenges before. It feels like no matter what you do, you let everyone down.

You woke up one day and realized that this was not the life you wanted or expected. Depression, anxiety, Postpartum Mood Disorders or other issues have left you feeling wrung out, stressed and useless. You don't do anything that takes real effort or makes you vulnerable in any way. Your relationships aren't fulfilling. You feel like you need a time out from life and so fill your free time with the internet or TV. You compare yourself to the pretty lives shown online and wonder 'why not me?'. You just want to stop feeling this way-- and fast.

Ask most kids, and they will straight out say most adults are clueless about how hard it is to deal with the problems they face. If as a parent, you feel like the sweet loving child you have raised has been abducted by "aliens" and your attempts to reach them have been unsuccessful-you're not alone. As a therapist, my focus is on listening to, entering and understanding the private world of young clients and adults. I utilize innovative, interactive and focused-based therapeutic approaches to help support, guide and coach the necessary life skills needed to meet their unique challenges.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
