Waitlist for new clients
I have experience in helping individuals through life challenges such as stress, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, abuse, trauma, suicidal and homicidal thoughts, self-harm, psychosis, relational conflicts, and adjustment difficulties across various transitions in life.
I am not currently accepting new clients through Telehealth. The most courageous step in starting a journey of change is asking someone for help. My goal is to help individuals heal and feel equipped to develop the tools they need to create a more empowered life. My approach to counseling is collaborative, non-judgmental, and supportive in order to create a healthy space where an individual, couple, or family can freely be themselves.

My clinical and work experience include working in a hospital psychiatric unit with all dynamics of mental health issues, including suicidal ideation, depression, schizophrenia, substance abuse, bipolar, borderline, psychosis, domestic violence, sexual abuse, PTSD and TBI's.
I believe in a non-judgmental, person-centered, positive approach in the counseling relationship, where the client feels comfortable enough to express their feelings and thoughts while examining factors which may be causing them pain, anxiety, or unhappiness. I also believe that individuals have the power within themselves to overcome these personal barriers to attain their full potential. My goal is to support you and give you tools to use along the way, and also in your future. There is light at the end of what may seem a dark tunnel, but together we will work to get you there.

Being a transparent person and working in the field of addiction has helped me relate and understand others in their recovery journeys. My purpose today is to help others figure out their ways that they want to live a healthier better life and how they can do that with talk therapy. The ideal client would be someone that is open and willing to make changes in their lives and to grow by self reflecting on where they want to go in their future.

Psychotherapy, if done well, provides participants with the gift of self-understanding. That self understanding, I have found, comes from the experience of being listened to and understood by a sensitive and knowledgeable therapist. But in addition, psychotherapy needs to practically address problems. I have extensive training in contemporary psychoanalytic approaches, which allows me to help patients understand themselves more deeply; often this produces profound changes. But when problems require practical techniques, I integrate aspects of cognitive-behavioral, family systems, and humanistic approaches.

It is wonderful that you decided to begin the process of finding a therapist. I think that it is vital that you find someone that is a good fit for you. It is important to create an environment that is free of judgment so that you can feel safe expressing yourself. The way we form our identity is complex, many roles play a factor including our environment, family history, current relationships, and lifestyle. Through the journey of life, events both positive and painful help to mold us. The path of healing and exploration into yourself can lead to a stronger, happier, healthier you.

Michelle Walsh is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Michigan who has been practicing since 2018. She graduated from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. Michelle believes in the foundational tenet of Dialectical Behavior Therapy that states we are all doing our best, and we can also be doing better. She allows this to lead her practice as she acknowledges the stigma related to mental health treatment, our inherent discomfort of change, and the impact our environment and genetics have on our thoughts, emotions, and behavior.

Through life you may feel as though you are in a constant fight with yourself. Where the history of your battles have not been won, but only suppressed. Overtime they are unknowingly disarmed and you find yourself walking across an unknown terrain that triggers you to fall apart. With this comes the ability to pick up your broken pieces and put them all back together healthily. What is great about being human is the ability to learn and grow.

Psychosis Therapists

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
