“When a baby is born, so is a mother.” My speciality focuses in the perinatal period and in the early years of parenting. When a person becomes a parent many things from their own childhood may make their way to the surface of the mind. How does that impact their thoughts, beliefs, and approach to pregnancy and parenting? Let's explore together.

Have you ever been told you’re "too sensitive" or "too much"? What about "not enough"? Have you felt pressured to meet other’s expectations and disregard your own needs, feelings and wants? If this feels true, you are not alone. I have experience working with individuals through their traumas, shame, anxiety, anger, depression, identity issues, life transition, relationship troubles, grief, and heartache. I believe therapy looks different for each individual depending on what they are needing from the therapeutic space. Sometimes it’s using humor to bring connection, other times it’s processing tough challenges without judgement.

It seems like no matter what you do, you’re never free from worry and anxiety. At night, you lay in bed, trying to calm your thoughts, endlessly obsessing about the day ahead. Come morning, you’re exhausted and can’t seem to focus on anything for more than a few moments at a time. You’ve begun to question everything – second-guessing your choices, overthinking each move until you’re paralyzed by indecision. No one seems to understand how you feel, so you started to withdraw from friends and loved ones. You move through each day on autopilot, sleepwalking your life away. But you can't go on like this; something needs to change.

Making space to take care of ourselves is so important to good mental health. People often seek therapy when life has come to feel unmanageable. Coping mechanisms used in the past may no longer serve, yet are ingrained, often unconscious, and difficult to change. Whether your goal is to explore long standing issues, or to seek support with present themes, my goal as a therapist is to create a non-judgmental and helpful environment where you can make sense of your experiences and feelings while making progress towards a healthier way of being.

I am not currently accepting new clients through Telehealth. The most courageous step in starting a journey of change is asking someone for help. My goal is to help individuals heal and feel equipped to develop the tools they need to create a more empowered life. My approach to counseling is collaborative, non-judgmental, and supportive in order to create a healthy space where an individual, couple, or family can freely be themselves.

In my experience working with clients and in my own therapy, I have found that discovering and addressing the root of mental health struggles is more effective long-term than treating the symptoms. This has led me to pursue training in modalities that are focused on trauma, but can be used to treat challenges like anxiety and depression as well. If you would like to better understand where your struggles or coming from (or if you feel like you totally understand where they're coming from but don't know what to do about it) my approach will likely be a good fit for you.

My clients often believe they are a burden to others. They think they need to be perfect to be loved and that it would overwhelm others to know how they really feel. These beliefs leave them feeling anxious, lonely, ashamed and unhappy. They often isolate and use pornography, video games or substances to numb themselves. They may seek advice online, but find this information unhelpful. They may beat themselves up in frustration. Often, they seek therapy to have: better relationships; security and trust to express their needs; greater motivation and a sense of control over their life; and the confidence to be their authentic selves.
