I provide a safe non-judgmental space to unpack the complexity of your experience and develop deeper self-understanding, emotional regulation and relationship skills.
Addiction, Depression, Anxiety, Compulsions, Obsessions, Stagnation, Rage, Fear, Going Numb – are all attempts to communicate misalignment somewhere within the system. These defense mechanisms can be soothing in the short-term but can become obstacles to further self-development and long-term health if their messages are not understood. If we listen deeply and compassionately enough to the wisdom of our body and mind the previous obstacles to our wholeness can become the catalysts of deeper awareness, meaning, agency and personal fulfillment.

I work predominantly with women and "highly sensitive" women. My goal as a therapist is to facilitate the healing process by empowering women to create environments where they can thrive emotionally, mentally, and physically. My approach is exploratory and requires a willingness to engage in self-discovery. I believe that healing also stems from establishing rapport and a strong therapeutic relationship, making this unique relationship just as important as the treatment itself. I strive to ensure every client feels safe, seen, heard, and valued without judgment.

Welcome! I believe that one of the essential ingredients of change and transformative psychotherapy is the relationship between the individual and the therapist. Feeling understood and comfortable not only helps reduce one's symptoms, encouraging self-acceptance, but also leads toward deeper work which promotes lasting change and a deeper experience of one's unique self.

The relationship between the therapist and client is very important to the success of the therapy.
Seeking therapy is a big part of effective self-care. If you are curious about yourself, want to improve your relationships with others, and seek to find the most satisfaction life has to offer, therapy will provide a path forward. If you are in pain, therapy will provide relief. If you want to break free from past unproductive patterns, therapy will give you the tools and courage to forge a new way. I specialize in individual adult and couples therapy, anxiety/depression, life issues and adjusting to loss; and helping clients through divorce. I’m active, warm, respectful, and caring. I’d be happy to work with you!

By working together in therapy, we can help you reframe your relationship with these wounded safety-seeking parts in order to assist you in no longer needing to keep feeling those ways to be safe.
Do you ever get a cold isolated feeling when everyone around you seems to know exactly what they want to do in life or at least who they are and how to get there? That stomach-dropping loneliness that leaves you wondering if you’ll ever belong? Or maybe you know what it’s like to stare at an insurmountable mountain between you and who you want to be. So instead you put what everybody else wants and needs first, and hope no one ever asks you these questions because you don’t know what you’d be able to tell them? If so, my name is Rowan Anastasia LLMSW and I am the therapist for you.

This is achieved through building skills in mindfulness, dealing with anxiety and depression, relationship skills and gratitude practice.
You can learn to raise yourself...to enhance the positive aspects of life and build resilience in the face of adversity. The therapeutic relationship is tool to gain self knowledge, acceptance and access to your own wisdom. Therapy does not take difficulties in life away. Instead, you change your relationship to them. You learn the difference between the kind of suffering that is natural and unavoidable from the kind of suffering that is self inflicted. With this growing awareness inner strength and respect for yourself grows. Little by little you uproot destructive patterns and come back to life.

Seeking therapy is an invaluable investment in oneself, and I believe it is my job as a therapist to empower clients to find and live their own paths and truths. The path to healing begins with a trusting and accepting therapist-client relationship; I provide a space that recognizes and centers the unique strengths, values, and lived experiences of each individual, and I seek to partner with clients to best meet their needs. Respecting client self-determination is fundamental to my practice, which is grounded in cultural humility and recognizing the ways in which our values and identities form the many facets of who we are.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
