Prior to working at Michigan Psychological Care, I worked for several years at St. Vincent Catholic Charities Children's Home in Lansing, MI as a residential therapist providing individual, group, and family therapy. I have been trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model to help further address incidents of trauma in children and adolescents. Outside the office I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also like to spend time reading, watching movies, painting or drawing, and being outside.

I work with couples and individuals. I have experience in helping clients with depression, stress/anxiety, self worth/love/acceptance, relationship issues, family conflicts, parenting, vocational stress, among other life stressors. Most of my clients define their reasons for coming to therapy as simply wanting something more from life and relationships. They often have trouble getting past thoughts and emotions that prevent them from moving forward. We will work together to get to the core of your troubling thoughts, emotions and behaviors. This, allowing you to move forward to a more fulfilling life of purpose and direction.

I have walked beside many women as they journeyed through anxiety, depression, grief, relationship changes, body issues, identity shifts, cancer and more.
I invite my clients to come as they are in the truest sense. Each week you will begin to experience the freedom to discover and connect with who you really are. You will find and speak in your authentic voice. Here you will be truly heard and validated. You will begin to trust yourself and explore your Inner Knowing, including the wisdom of your body, to make aligned decisions in your life. Leave all the “shoulds” behind. You don’t need to perform or to pretend to be anyone who you are not. Together we will create a safe space - a soft landing each week where you can begin to relax and unpack your story.

Children, adolescents, and adults who want or need to express and identify tough emotions and learn to communicate those emotions are the people my heart has been most called to help. I want to help empower people with tools to listen to their bodies, and regulate their minds to make good choices and discover their internal skills. I want to support them to have healthy relationships with others. My clients would work to understand that they and the people around them are human and humans are not perfect. While I specialize in children and young people, however anyone who needs help is welcome with me.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
