I have worked closely with individuals in various settings including crisis management in emergency rooms, outpatient therapy, residential treatment for addiction, college/university counseling, and adult foster care homes.
I believe in the power of genuine connection, and always hope to create that with my clients. I have always been passionate about creating open, nonjudgmental communication in my personal and professional life, and strive to create a comfortable space for individuals to experience this in session. My experience has been varied because I have many treatment interests, but it all boils down to creating relationships with clients that promote healing.

My background includes treating a broad array of mental and substance use disorders in the outpatient therapy setting.
My work consists of providing a welcoming, profoundly non-judgmental atmosphere where one can experience the safety that human relationships may offer. I truly believe people first need the basics. We connect and flourish in therapy when provided with acceptance, respect and dignity in a non-shaming relationship. I take a holistic approach and incorporate foundational needs that are often overlooked. Sometimes the simplest solution may be most effective, while other situations may call for a deeper dive that will uncover a path to healing. Regardless, I leave the direction and pacing up to my clients to preserve autonomy.

There is no one more put together than a person in recovery. Living in recovery is working a program of mental health, staying clean and sober, and living one day at a time. With that being said, each person’s specific program looks different, with the common factor of living a balanced life of being grateful, mindful, spiritual, and finding a sense of community among other recovering individuals. My specialty areas are addictions, mental health, trauma, codependency issues, and how these affect you and those who love you.

As a behaviorist, I believe that the environments in which we develop ultimately play the most significant role in our actions, decisions, and outcomes. Without the proper space for growth, healing, and self-development, one may face difficulties in achieving self-realization and self-actualization. Human-beings are social creatures – genetically designed, behaviorally conditioned, and evolutionarily driven. We possess certain intrinsic, natural needs and adaptations that have developed over millions of years. If these dualistically basic and complex needs remain unfulfilled, we will struggle to attain this self-actualization.

You are an amazing human being. You are worthy of love, joy, and peace. Being aware of your worthiness can connect you to this wisdom. However, there may have been experiences, thoughts or beliefs that have made you forget your worthiness and preventing you from living your best life. I can help you explore how focus your awareness to the present and away from the past which may lead to depression and away from worries of tomorrow (anxiety).

My specialty is in addiction, codependency, and family of origin issues.
My therapeutic intervention is looking at the past as necessary in making changes for the future. I'm certain that any unwanted behavior can be unlocked by recognizing the purpose or wanted outcome for said behavior and my passion is helping you identify that unmet need and make healthy changes. I enjoy working with clients that are willing to do things outside of the therapeutic office setting such as writing, art, and/or practicing skills learned, and then reporting back in session the helpfulness of each strategy.

I also have experience in Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, Relationships, Anger Management, and Trauma.
As a Marriage & Family Therapist/Counselor my goal is to provide families, couples and individuals with a safe environment where they can explore themselves and the possibility of change within their life and their relationships. Our lives are centered on relationships with others. Relationships are the building blocks of life; but, they can also be very debilitating. When those relationships become troubled, sometimes assistance from family and friends may not be enough to find balance within yourself or other relationships. Lucky for us, there are people who have dedicated their lives to helping others along their journey.

I also have experience working in an outpatient substance abuse setting with adults and adolescents struggling with addiction.
As a therapist, I believe that building a relationship is the most important part of the therapeutic process. From that relationship, it becomes possible to examine difficult areas of your life in order to experience growth and security within yourself. The therapeutic setting provides a unique opportunity to pause the busyness of everyday life and sort through present or past concerns that may be affecting you and your family.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
