Therapy is a complex dynamic that unravels various topics that may be uncomfortable and challenging to face but doing so provides relief leading to healing and entering a new phase in your life. Developing appropriate coping skills to manage emotions, life stressors, and problems is key within sessions. Oftentimes, we build maladaptive coping skills due to modeled behavior, life experiences, or simply for survival so challenging them may seem impossible, but I am here to say it is not. Disrupting those maladaptive skills will require patience with yourself but having support in therapy makes the process obtainable and manageable.
My approach is considered eclectic in addressing the specific needs of each client, which can greatly differ. It’s important to build a therapeutic alliance, which simply means building a relationship and dynamic consisting of trust, empathy, honesty, and understanding inside a safe place to be your true self freely and openly with no judgments.
