Your body feels what your mind thinks. Everything is connected. Our thoughts can help to make us well or conversely our thoughts can help make us sick. Somatic Experiencing is a very respectful way to seek to balance the body and the mind. A healthy state of wellness is a balanced state of being. I work with ages 18 and up utilizing a somatic approach. I work with clients having trauma, anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, grief and loss, and aging.

As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I understand safety and trust can take time to develop as vulnerability and emotional intimacy may feel terrifying at times.
Welcome, and thank you for being here. Please take this moment to acknowledge the courage it takes to reach out for help, as it is not an easy step for many of us. YOU are the expert of your own life and experiences. As your therapist, I would feel honored if you would help me understand life through your perspective and be willing for me to walk alongside you and bear witness to this part of your journey. I view counseling as a collaborative therapeutic relationship built on authenticity, curiosity, empathy, attunement, humor, and mutuality.

Collaboratively we create customized, innovative, empowering treatments for anger, anxiety, depression, mood, personality, identity, dissociative, delusional sleep disorders, life adjustments, illness, loss, grief, dementia and complex trauma.
Focused on healing through trauma-informed, body-based care and grounded in family systems theory, I draw on a range of counseling approaches including; psychodynamic, transpersonal, existential, expressive, mindfulness, mind-body, behavioral (DBT and CBT). Together we sojourn toward self-awareness and compassion for self. Emblematic moments from the past may have become conditioned responses to the present. We focus both on here and now and historical events. TAT (Tapas Acupressure Technique), mindfulness, sensorimotor psychotherapy and EMDR-Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing help re-program stored arousal in the body.

I am trained in various therapeutic modalities with specific concentration in trauma and addressing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, I also work frequently with couples and folks with marital issues.
I use an informal, down to earth approach so clients can feel comfortable working collaboratively to "name the elephant" in the client's life, drill down to the core of issues and discover how patterns from the past repeat in the present. I am passionate about challenging stuck points, old habits and outdated beliefs with care, compassion and respect. I am never afraid to bring humor into a session when appropriate as I value the healing properties of laughter.

I work from a client-centered approach incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, trauma-informed care, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing.
We live in a world where men are told to be strong and not show weakness. A world where more men end their own lives by suicide than anyone else. A world that is leading our young men into confusion and isolation. It is time to break the stigma that struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, CPTSD, grief, and other mental illnesses is looked at as a weakness or disqualification. It is my goal to walk alongside men and young men ages 16 and up to help break the stigma and support positive growth in whatever way that looks like for each individual.

I work with people dealing with the struggles that come from living and growing. Many of my clients are dealing with life transitions, relationship problems, grief, stress, anxiety or trauma. They may have noticed patterns in their life they want to change. All of them want to feel better, to function better, and to understand themselves better. I work with individuals looking for change, as well as couples hoping to transform their relationship. Couples are often feeling stuck, having the same conversations over and over but not feeling heard by each other. Living and loving together is difficult and we need a helping hand.

First of all, I view all my clients' presenting issues as unhealthy yet normal adjustments to life problems. These adjustments have become problematic and created symptoms in the individual and in relationships. My goal is threefold: "stop the bleeding," seek healthier adjustments and, ultimately, to build a quality life of contentment and satisfaction. My orientation is existential and cognitive behavioral, with a specialty in clinical hypnosis and its many valuable applications.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
