New season here in Maine is slowly approaching as the February coldness passes. Personal change like the seasons can be a challenge, past experiences may impact the way forward, some need extra help working through trauma or some other issue. My practice could potentially help. I provide services in an up front and honest manner. My approach is to have active dialogue, not just sitting, typing, and waiting for something to happen. This means focusing on a growth mindset, a willingness to heal/change, being realistic, and genuine engagement in therapy. Learning to be responsible for yourself is part of change.

I have availability in office or via video. I work with people who have trouble with relationships, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, rage fits, struggle with addiction/alcohol, have gone through trauma, and grew up in unhealthy homes. People who at times wish they could escape life and need support to remember how to smile, or sometimes learn how to smile (for real) for the first time. If someone uses legal and/or illegal substances and wants to quit or not, I support your decision. If you want to ease your anxiety, anger, and/or sadness and want to feel happy, I believe you deserve that! :)

I have extensive experience working with trauma issues and substance abuse, as well as anxiety, depression, and marital, divorce, and grief issues.
Not accepting new clients. I have been a therapist in Maine for 25 years, initially at the Master's level; I completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2012. I work with people from all walks of life - people of diverse ethnicities, orientations, and beliefs. I have worked at in- and out-patient programs, and in private practice; with people who are having difficulty adjusting to changing life circumstances, and with people with severe, persistent, mental illness. This has confirmed my belief that, while our differences should be celebrated, human beings can always find connection, and those connections can be the basis for healing.

I see you scrolling, checking out all these profiles. Bit overwhelming huh? How do you choose? Who is right? Will they judge you? The cool thing is that it's so trendy to have a therapist; weren't you aware? That's why it's so hard to find one these days! But, it is still kind of scary to take the plunge. That's not how it's supposed to be you know; when you enter my office, my one and only goal is to help you feel accepted just how you are, no matter what you're bringing through the door. Kids making you crazy? Partner on your last nerve? Memories or old trauma preventing your from feeling like you can move forward? I can help.

I specialize in working with people who experience substance use disorders and developmental trauma.
Please note that I am currently at capacity and unable to accept new patients at this time. There is wisdom in the ways we adapt to our environments, but they do not always serve us in the present moment. My aim is to help people identify their adaptive patterns and view them with compassion, while also learning what to hold and what to let go. As a neurobiological informed therapist, I aim to help people move from judgement, shame and isolation to curiosity, acceptance and connection.

My practice focuses on working with people 18 to 99 on trauma ( PTSD), emotional dysregulation, sensory processing needs, life stress, depression and anxiety issues, maternal mental health (postpartum depression, pregnancy & perinatal grief), and family treatment.
I want people to know that therapy begins with choosing to take the step of exploring yourself, an event that has occurred, STRESS, relationships, loss, burnout. That big next step involves developing a trusting and genuine rapport with your clinician. I invite you to reach out and begin that process with me and know that it can be done with humor, understanding, and a very strong believe in the fact that we are not perfect, that we are not made to go it alone all the time, and that we all need somewhere and someone that it can be all about you for a moment.

I believe in an integrative and holistic approach to help clients find balance in their daily lives. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma or other challenges in your life, it is possible to work through it with someone who can offer skillful support and guidance. The goal that people say they most want; is to feel better, or that they want things to be different. It is possible for healing to occur and to work on issues that are hard to deal with in the right space. Change is possible and attainable.

My background includes working in a residential setting with teens and young adults who have experienced trauma.
I am passionate about providing a safe space for those seeking a non-judgmental environment to heal and grow. My practice is strengths based and I use a variety of evidence-based modalities to help people help themselves. What’s most important in therapy in my opinion, is that the client is the expert of themselves. I do not accept insurance and unless you have a referral or are court ordered, my client load is full at this time. E-mail is the best way to reach me.

Please Note: I exclusively provide Comprehensive Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or DBT Complex Trauma. Sometimes it helps to shift our perspective, even slightly. What we have been doing is comfortable, but not necessarily effective. People are full of life and strength and vigor; and they are the primary architects for their happiness. Things that happen to us that aren't our fault, and we still have to resolve them anyway. Counseling can help make the perspective shift, and uncover the life, strength and vigor in all of us. Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
