I draw from ecotherapy, somatics, parts work, EMDR, and spirituality to help clients reconnect to a sense of inner guidance.
Have you ever experienced a life change, trauma, or loss that you simply can’t make sense of? That makes it hard to be present in your body? To stay connected to what and whom you care about? I hold sacred space for your journey home to a sense of wholeness. I offer psychotherapy for those who want to go deeper into the body to process patterns of grief and trauma showing up in the present. I offer somatic coaching for those who have specific goals and want to better manage stress and pain, feel more present in their bodies, and gain a toolbox of skills to increase their ability to regulate.

Aside from using EMDR for relaxation and trauma work, I am very behaviorally oriented.
I have worked in this field for over 30 years in hospital, residential, day treatment, outpatient and home settings. My experience is primarily with young adults and with families who have children with special needs whether neurotypical or behavioral. I have worked with a lot of adolescents and pre-teens who are having difficulty adjusting to the demands of individuation and separation. It is important to regard everyone's life situation as unique and to support the process of personal awareness and growth.

I specialize in working with older adolescents, young adults through adult who are struggling with behavioral/emotional/or cognitive symptoms related to anxiety and trauma especially developmental trauma. Developmental trauma unlike an intense event, happens through our developmental growth period it is how we learned to see ourselves, sense our own innate human value and how we interacted with the world. This may show up in your life as perfectionism, difficulty doing boundaries or being assertive, difficulty with self care etc. I utilize experiential neuroscience and trauma interventions to help identify and break through barriers

Scott draws from different theoretical models, including EMDR, cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic approaches, ego state models, and various trauma/dissociation models- to help clients became aware of, and change the influences of maladaptive coping.
Life can be overwhelming-leaving little time or energy for peaceful introspection. I use a warm acceptance and humor to help clients face challenging dilemmas. Without understanding the motivation behind our impulses, we can lose our way, sometimes getting stuck for years, and developing maladaptive emotional coping difficulties. I help people recognize and overcome their self-limiting belief systems, generating greater self knowledge, confidence and having the ability to tolerate the emotional strains of contemporary living. I have over 20 years of work experience in the trauma field- working with both survivors and perpetrators of abuse.

I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), parts work, feminist therapy, and person-centered therapy to generate beneficial changes.
My goal as a therapist is to help clients reduce suffering and increase personal freedom and power; my approach is collaborative, candid, playful, and deeply attentive. I often work with people who have experienced sexual trauma, intimate partner violence, and developmental trauma. I always give close attention to how oppressive systems can negatively impact individual mental health and well being. I am a Health At Every Size Clinician and committed to fat liberation. I have extensive experience supporting queer and gender queer folks.

Have you ever experienced issues around your sex life, sexuality, or gender? These issues can feel awkward, lonely, and uncomfortable. Sexuality, sex, and gender are integral aspects of life that on the whole are ignored and misunderstood by society. Perhaps you want to learn about the desire difference between you and your partner, or you want to process through trauma that you have experienced in the past, or you would like to explore the world of BDSM and kink but have been too nervous to have a conversation with any of your friends. Regardless of your situation, your sexuality and gender needs are valid.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
