Anxiety, stress reduction, mindfulness, ADHD concern, school, divorce, parent-child conflict, loss, EMDR and Trauma interventions, for children, adolescents and adults are specialties.
In my calm, safe, confidential office, I am currently offering HIPAA secure Online video sessions using a HIPPA-compliant secure platform or phone consultations. We integrate CDC guidelines for COVID-19 for any inperson sessions. My 25 years of clinical experience have taught me about the courage those facing complex life difficulties bring to psychotherapy. Adults, children and adolescents are given help finding solutions. Mindfulness techniques which I have discovered the value of through a 25+ year meditation practice are also of benefit to clients who are looking to make life changes.

I have training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, relational therapies, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Systems Therapy (TST), family and couples counseling, Parent Child Interaction Therapy ( PCIT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
To me, the bedrock of meaningful treatment is a feeling of comfort and ease with your therapist. I consider it a great privilege to assist people in their growth and healing. Giving to people in this way is an honor and a joy.

Current clinics are adult depression & anxiety, child anxiety & depression, and child PCIT.
Hello, we are a clinic based at the University of Maine and serve clients throughout the entire state of Maine community. Our services are primarily in-person and we are also glad to serve clients from more distant areas of Maine through telehealth. We offer research-based psychological treatments, such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), for a wide range of ages and difficulties, and are staffed by Clinician-Psychologist teams with specific expertise. Although we don't take insurance, our sliding fee scale means that the session fee is often less than or equal to an insurance copay.

** I am not currently accepting new clients, but will update when I have openings.** Sometimes life can be challenging. Kids don't always know how to manage difficult transitions or feelings by using their words. Instead, an unhappy or anxious child may present with behaviors that are upsetting. I can help discover underlying issues and guide young people in finding ways to better express what is on their minds.

New seasons approach as the stressors of life continue. Personal issues can be a challenge just like the change of the seasons, past experiences may impact the way forward, some need extra help working through trauma or some other issue. My practice could potentially help. I provide services in an up front and honest manner. My approach is to have active dialogue, not just sitting, typing, and waiting for something to happen. This means focusing on a growth mindset, a willingness to heal/change, being realistic, and genuine engagement in therapy. Learning to be responsible for yourself is part of change.

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, or intrusive thoughts that are impacting your daily functioning? Likely finding pleasure and comfort in your life has become more difficult and your self esteem and confidence has suffered making it difficult to communicate your needs. Feelings of estrangement are making it harder to cope. The expression of “being cut off” comes closest to capturing your sense of yourself. It’s not too late to get help. My extensive training in the mental health field has made a significant difference in helping individuals and couples work through difficult times and gain better coping skills.

Real change requires more than just talking about our problems. But this doesn't have to be a painful process, in fact it can be deeply nourishing and uplifting. I specialize in Internal Family Systems or "parts work", a kind of collaborative meditation where we get in touch with parts of ourselves that have been rejected by others and ourselves. Building compassion and tenderness towards these parts where we get stuck allows for a renewed sense of freedom, freshness, and possibility in our lives.

Welcome! In this very moment you're choosing to be on your journey. My therapeutic philosophy is to facilitate and support your body's innate healing response through the applications of EMDR, (EMDRIA.ORG) and heart-centered therapies. EMDR in particular works to liberate clients from past trauma memories whether that be small "t" trauma or big 'T" trauma and to transform a person's subconscious beliefs thus "turning down the volume" on negative memories/negative beliefs and transforming those subconscious beliefs back into positive core beliefs so that you may become your highest aspect of yourself.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
