My practice is designed to work with people who feel overwhelmed or "stuck" in their current life situation. I begin with the understanding that everyone has struggles from time to time with primary relationships, work situations, financial stressors, unforeseen change of life circumstances or unresolved grief and loss. Common effects are anxiety, unexplained depression or loss of confidence. When these effects spill over into other areas of function, affecting sleep, clear thinking or enjoyment of regular activities, it is time to do some therapeutic "work" to put things in perspective and be able to move forward.

Some of us come to therapy because we are suffering, or feeling stuck, around a particular issue. Other times, we arrive with a readiness to explore long held beliefs or feelings that are no longer serving us. Some of us have painful experiences from our past that are asking to be looked at, so that we can move forward in our lives, without fear. My goal, as a therapist, is to support individuals and couples to do that work in a way that feels safe and honest.

I help people who have anxiety, overwhelm or stressful relationships find clarity and serenity. In 2014, after years of talk therapy and recovery work, I became frustrated by the lack of progress in a few key areas. I decided to go deeper and I combined "parts work" with a mediation facilitation process. The healing I experienced was astounding. I researched other practitioners who were working at these deep levels, began studying evidence based techniques with Sarah Peyton, and I implemented these life changing models into my work. A past client posted: "Sara’s way of providing help creates peace in the battle zone of my brain."

Is your life turning out the way you planned? Are your personal relationships fulfilling? Are you finding the right job for you? Do people get who you really are? Too often we lose track of the way we exist each day. Depression over past mistakes or anxiety about what might happen in the future prevent us from being who we want to be in the present. The goal of existential counseling is to help you develop a better relationship with your "self" first, and then to improve your relationships with others. To help you gain more confidence in the decisions you make daily and to worry less about how others will judge you in the future.

Often times it is the devastation of a break up that leads us to searching for a new therapist. Whether its a long-term relationship or a short-term situationship, saying goodbye to a person we are attached to can be traumatic. We are left craving support, connection, and someone to guide us down the path of “what just happened?” As social creatures, we need companionship and we want answers. Relationship endings are also new beginnings.

My goal is to co-create a trusting relationship in which you can begin to explore and change the difficult patterns that have kept you from living to your fullest potential and happiness. We will work to understand the ways in which your history may have informed and limited your life and relationships (both with self and others). We will also look at how to transform, heal, and grow in the here and now; to respond rather than react when caught up in overwhelming emotions or negative thought patterns. I utilize a non-pathologizing and practical approach that includes mindfulness, self-compassion, and childhood trauma recovery.

My job is to help you let go of what isn't working for you anymore. I focus on your current issues but also on those longstanding patterns that surface again and again throughout the life span and cause unhappiness. My approach is interpersonal and client-centered, but I also incorporate concrete strategies for symptom alleviation.
