I work with trauma through an embodied, non-pathologizing, experiential approach, resourcing clients through knowledge of the nervous system and somatic practices.
Welcome! I am interested in how a therapeutic partnership can be a laboratory and a refuge; a place for you to engage curiously with yourself and your relational capacity. I find that over time this practice of being together and being curious can catalyze our intuition and rearrange patterns of stuckness. I believe we can learn to relate more clearly, deeply, and kindly with ourselves through being witnessed and attended to with care. I find that intimacy with our own emotional landscape can be the bedrock of a grounded relationship to self and others.

As a trained yoga teacher and birth doula, I am grounded in somatic and mindfulness practices and work to incorporate awareness of the body, and the information it provides, into our work.
Therapy offers us a space to show up for the parts of ourselves that have been hurting. The parts that, for whatever the reason, have felt neglected, abandoned, scared, or are in need of attention and care. I work to create a supportive and warm therapeutic relationship where we can cultivate greater awareness, presence, and tenderness to our inner experiences allowing for more skillful navigation of challenging emotions, situations, and stuck patterns.

I work at a somatic level, gently accompanying you on a journey into past experiences to provide support, warmth and healing.
I help people who have anxiety, overwhelm or stressful relationships find clarity and serenity. In 2014, after years of talk therapy and recovery work, I became frustrated by the lack of progress in a few key areas. I decided to go deeper and I combined "parts work" with a mediation facilitation process. The healing I experienced was astounding. I researched other practitioners who were working at these deep levels, began studying evidence based techniques with Sarah Peyton, and I implemented these life changing models into my work. A past client posted: "Sara’s way of providing help creates peace in the battle zone of my brain."

I bring my passion for somatic psychology, trauma-sensitive mindfulness, and attachment theory to my therapeutic approach.
I offer 60 and 90 minute sessions, and specialize in half day trauma therapy intensives. A therapy intensive is an efficient and comprehensive pathway to heal trauma in consecutive days instead of over many years in weekly therapy, and can accelerate symptom relief. I utilize evidence-informed modalities such as EMDR, Progressive Counting, and the Flash technique to effectively heal the roots of distressing emotions and negative beliefs stored within traumatic memories.

Mindfulness, somatic psychology and contemplative practices, are grounding modes of therapy.
Hello, thank you for taking time to be here. Therapy is an investment in time, personal commitment, and money. My practice has shifted since COVID to seeing less people, for 60 to 90 minutes, and not accepting insurance. Hakomi, Mindfulness, Somatic Psychology, CBT and other modalities are part of the support provided as people move through grief (death, terminal illness, divorce...); healing past trauma, re-surfacing or ready to liberate from, the lies they embed in our narratives; and reclaiming the day to day wakefulness of being. Anxiety, depression, problems at the macro level, benefit from mindfulness and action, and therapy.

Alongside talk, I offer guidance through somatic processing and regulation, mindfulness, expressive art, play, and sand tray.
Loads of information coming at our nervous systems on a regular basis, paired with unreasonable expectations of how to show up in the world often leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, angry and hopeless. When our brains and bodies are out of whack, they signal us that we need help by making it hard to ignore. Gaining awareness is insightful and empowering, and allows us the ability to find a path to change. Together, we will explore your lived experience to find what has made meaning for you, and what you feel needs shifting. You may have trauma, relationship issues, low self worth, or mounting stress.

I come from queer and liberation therapy perspectives to utilize Gestalt relational and somatic therapy, as well as psychodynamic, mindfulness, and EMDR therapies.
I work most often with people who have been pushed to the margins, including trans, non-binary and queer people, autistic and other neurodivergent people, and people who have survived traumatic events and relationships. I enjoy working with organizers, activists, and artists. I tend to be a good fit for clients experiencing shame, despair, isolation and existential dread.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
