I have worked in a variety of settings within my field, including therapy clinics, schools, and hospitals, and draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches including CBT, DBT, Psychoanalytic, Family Theory, and Strengths Based.
For the past 30+ years, my goal has been to help people of all ages feel listened to and understood, identify concerns with helpful solutions, and feel supported and valued. Anxiety, low self-esteem, change/transitions, school stress, relationships, family dynamics, parenting, and women's issues are strong practice areas for me, in addition to other areas of concern. I have an extensive work history with children, teenagers, college age, and parents, as well as adults of all ages. I provide a safe, non-judging, therapeutic interaction where you can feel accepted, comfortable, and free to truly be yourself.

I am a pre-licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I am also in my second year of a clinical psychology doctoral program. Asking for help when we are struggling with our mental health is very difficult for many people. We rarely have a person dedicated to our well-being who can exhibit empathy for the many ways in which we might feel ‘stuck’. I believe that people can direct their own course, either through short-term focused therapy or longer-term modalities. I offer flexibility for my clients because I know that life can be busy.

I am a seasoned clinician who has worked with adults, couples and families for over 30 years. Increased awareness leads to increased options. Often the work of therapy is about making or repairing connections--interpersonal, internal or perhaps even spiritual. I provide individual adult psychodynamic psychotherapy; couples counseling: marital, pre and post divorce. I use a multi modal approach often including assessment and treatment from a family systems perspective and a psychodynamic perspective. I reserve a portion of my practice to provide a safe and intriguing space for children to express themselves and to be understood by adults. Facilitated parent-child sessions often help.

My primary goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals to explore how their experiences impact their view of the world, interpersonal relationships, and how they regulate their reactions to events. By fostering exploration and curiosity about our mental health and personal growth I hope to provide therapy that helps individuals meet their goals and flourish.

I've been licensed since 2006. My experience in addiction is extensive, including work in inpatient, outpatient and detox. I tailor each client's treatment needs individually using evidence based EMDR, CBT, DBT and psychodynamic therapy. Together we will learn to pay close attention to aspects of yourself that you may be unable to touch on your own. I look for patterns in either behavior or thoughts. Examining past family dynamics and reaching unconscious behavior, I connect that information to how it affects our current lives. Currently I am doing telemedicine with couples, individuals and I run CBT and DBT addiction groups.

My name is Esraa, and I am a Forensic mental health clinician. I believe that who we are today is strongly influenced by how the world once treated us. I emphasize understanding how past childhood experiences have the ability to impact present functioning. Before finding solutions, I first believe one must come to understand where issues originally stemmed from. This increases interpersonal awareness and sets the stage for working on more concrete and maladaptive thoughts and behaviors.

Sometimes in life we question where we are going or cannot seem to find a path to get to where we want to be ~ to be happy with ourselves and at peace. The world today may be creating more stressors in our life than what we are use to causing a feeling of imbalance, depression or anxiety. My goal is to create a safe, respectful and caring atmosphere where one may explore and begin to understand one's thoughts, behaviors and feelings. Together with my clients, we explore their dreams, challenges and fears. Along this journey there can be self-discovery, problem solving and self love.

Life, relationships, work, marriage and more provide challenges and are complicated to say the least. I pride myself in creating a therapeutic environment that allows everyone a space to reflect on your inner narrative. We then create a more accurate monologue that will help you transform your relationships with people, places and things.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
