Welcoming new folks: I see individuals and relationships, including romantic and non-romantic duos (i.e. friends, adult siblings). My approach is trauma-/systems-informed and relational. Our work together will respond to what you need from this space, recognizing that no one approach fits all. We’ll make sense of a constellation of experiences, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, exploring their origins and contexts, protective functions, and impacts on your self and relationships. Our collaborative process enables you (us!) to gently explore past wounds, deepen reflection and curiosity, and find new ways of being to heal and grow.

I focus on creating a safe and collaborative relationship. I base my work in the belief that we are affected by relationships- how we relate to others, our world, and our self. When we feel a safe connection in these areas, there seems to be more peace in the present. We may tend to feel more resilient when facing stress and change. When we feel disconnected, parts of us can feel stuck in anger, fear, criticism, or sadness. Our emotional well-being and relationships may become distressed. Therapy can be a way to navigate painful emotions, connect more deeply, and awaken qualities of confidence, creativity, and compassion.

I offer presence and connection to support couples and individuals towards greater authenticity and fulfillment. I understand well the tremendous capacity for the psyche to accommodate unresolved trauma by intricate and patterned coping means. This tempers my approach towards one of gentle courage with clients. Together we learn to find a pacing that creates safety for making contact with what hurts. I am deeply interested in supporting the recognition of your intrinsic capacity to grow towards wholeness. This occurs through dialogue, active processing of emotions, and encountering your truth in the present.

Is your life turning out the way you planned? Are your personal relationships fulfilling? Are you finding the right job for you? Do people get who you really are? Too often we lose track of the way we exist each day. Depression over past mistakes or anxiety about what might happen in the future prevent us from being who we want to be in the present. The goal of existential counseling is to help you develop a better relationship with your "self" first, and then to improve your relationships with others. To help you gain more confidence in the decisions you make daily and to worry less about how others will judge you in the future.

I appreciate you taking the time to learn about me and to consider working together. I have over 30 years of experience working with adolescents, adults, families and couples. I use an eclectic approach, guided by psychodynamic principles to help those I care for. I work best with individuals and couples who wish to have greater insight into the life of the mind; with a desire to reach optimal goals, and overcome obstacles to living a higher quality life. As a psychologist, I have specialty training in psychological evaluation, which can more quickly help to identify unknowns and underlying issues we can discuss in therapy.

Distressed about your relationship? Feeling anxious or overwhelmed? Hopeless or broken? Is it psychosis or spiritual? You are welcome to come as you are with your full range of feelings. We can work to uncover what is at the core and driving your distress with a goal of personal transformation or identify other goals of your choosing. I have a special interest in exploring and integrating the lasting impact of spiritual, kundalini, entheogen/psychedelic, and other extreme experiences that are frequently misdiagnosed as mental illness.

I believe that relationships have the ability to serve as containers for significant personal growth as well as relational healing. I work with relationships of all types to break long-standing patterns of conflict or to navigate recent ruptures, and I am particularly passionate about supporting partners and individuals exploring nontraditional relationship structures. I also work from a trauma-informed perspective with individuals who are facing life transitions, struggling with relational challenges, or feeling like something from the past is getting in the way of living life with ease.

Hello, thank you for taking time to be here. Therapy is an investment in time, personal commitment, and money. My practice has shifted since COVID to seeing less people, for 60 to 90 minutes, and not accepting insurance. Hakomi, Mindfulness, Somatic Psychology, CBT and other modalities are part of the support provided as people move through grief (death, terminal illness, divorce...); healing past trauma, re-surfacing or ready to liberate from, the lies they embed in our narratives; and reclaiming the day to day wakefulness of being. Anxiety, depression, problems at the macro level, benefit from mindfulness and action, and therapy.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
