Accepting new clients - In person and telehealth availability! Passionate about providing individualized and intentional care, I believe that therapeutic work requires a strong connection, where clients feel heard and empowered. Taking a psychotherapeutic approach, I have helped clients to develop awareness of how we come to understand ourselves and the way we interact with the world for over thirteen years. Through this journey, we develop compassion for the patterns we created to adapt to our environment, while exploring what may keep us from experiencing life with more connection and acceptance, and less shame and judgment.

My name is Esraa, and I am a Forensic mental health clinician. I believe that who we are today is strongly influenced by how the world once treated us. I emphasize understanding how past childhood experiences have the ability to impact present functioning. Before finding solutions, I first believe one must come to understand where issues originally stemmed from. This increases interpersonal awareness and sets the stage for working on more concrete and maladaptive thoughts and behaviors.

I am a "regular guy" kind of therapist--I don't usually wear a tie or speak in psychobabble. I bring 30 years of experience to each counseling relationship. I prefer to work without diagnoses, as I find most of them to be of little utility in guiding therapy. I would much rather work from a strengths-based perspective empowering my clients to make positive changes in their lives. I work especially well with physicians, executives, first responders, and other individuals who value their privacy and confidentiality. My treatment approach is typically short-term in duration, though I am willing to make the long journey when necessary.

Meaningful and lasting change. Isn’t that what we’re all looking for? I am here to help those struggling with general anxiety, social phobia, mild to severe depression, or stress related disorders. If you are tired of dreading getting out of bed each morning, or wondering why you "feel this way" - I am here to help create change and turn off the "struggle switch." I work from a third wave behavioral approach (ACT) that will empower you with coping skills to overcome these obstacles. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but it can start today.

Working towards PhD in Forensic Psychology.
Hello! I'm Jodie. Although I have specialized in working with children and adolescents, I also work with adults who have experienced trauma or struggle with other stressors. Past roles include senior leadership positions for nonprofits in the state of Massachusetts. This included working closely with DCF, DMH, and DJJ in order to support children and families. One single approach is not suitable for everyone, so I take an integrative approach to therapy. I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT, ACT, Forensic Social Work, and Brief Therapy. I am also a master's Level Expert for CPCS. Public defenders can hire me as a consultant on cases.

Our problems are very reliable. They keep presenting themselves for our consideration. Your ability to be successful in therapy is closely tied to your willingness to stop and look around, take ownership, and choose a path forward. This requires creativity, effort, and courage. You employ your existing skills and strategies while learning new ones, ultimately moving each day towards living a life of integrity - a life in which your actions match your values. You stop running from problems and instead welcome their return, because these problems help you clarify what is truly important. The problem becomes the solution.

Forensic Psychology Therapists

How does forensic psychology work?

Forensic psychology works by providing those in the legal system with expert information about psychology and behavior that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Forensic psychologists do this through a range of services—conducting psychological assessments for court cases, assisting police officers with investigations, providing expert opinion, helping with mediation, and providing mental health care to victims or perpetrators of crimes.

Can a forensic psychologist help with child custody cases?

Yes. In the event that it’s needed, an attorney or judge may appoint a forensic psychologist to provide an assessment and recommendation. This process involves multiple interviews with the child, the parent (or parents), and sometimes others. The psychologist assesses the parent’s mental health, strengths and weaknesses, and parenting practices to understand what’s in the child’s best interest. They then complete a report with recommendations based on their assessment.

Do forensic psychologists help solve crimes?

In some cases they do. For example, criminal profiling involves collaborating with law enforcement officers to construct a profile of a perpetrator based on psychology, personality, and behavior as suggested by the crime in order to focus the investigation. They may also offer expert input on subjects related to a case such as deception, false confessions, and the reliability of testimony based on eyewitness accounts.

How long do people typically work with a forensic psychologist?

The length of time an individual works with a forensic psychologist depends on the relevant service. For example, if a forensic psychologist is conducting a psychological assessment for a court case, this may take one to two sessions to complete (although they can be more extensive). If the forensic psychologist is providing therapy to someone accused or convicted of a crime, treatment may last for several months or more.
