My approach to working with patients is called Mind-Body Integrative Psychotherapy. Mind-Body Integrative psychotherapy is an approach to healing ones emotional, spiritual and physical well being in the here and now while also giving the patient tools that create long-lasting positive changes. My approach blends conventional psychotherapeutic strategies, including the recommendation of medications when deemed necessary, with evidence-based, natural, less invasive therapies (e.g. dietary change, meditation, acupuncture, yoga, herbal medicine and therapeutic massage).

I have over 25 years as a clinical social worker using a variety of approaches based upon the individual's situation. I focus on positive, strength-based solutions when working with children, adolescents and adults. With an extensive social work background in elementary and middle school settings, I utilize collaboration with staff to help children and families. I believe that it is important for the individual and therapist to work together as a team to achieve the client's personal goals.

"If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we aren't really living." --Gail Sheehy. I am so pleased to live in Midcoast Maine and work with those in the community to seek out life's joys and opportunities. As a therapist, it is essential to work with people where they're at, and help guide them to where they want to be. I've assisted people along such paths in a variety of settings and ranges of diagnostic severity. ***Currently not accepting new clients. ***

Hi there. Few things are certain about life - death, taxes, and that things sometimes things can be pretty difficult. We all want to feel successful in our lives, and sometimes we need some support to figure out how to find balance and navigate the storms.

In the adult client, I especially enjoy witnessing one's ability to reject ineffective patterns of thinking in order to reach and sustain personal growth. Facing what we find to recognize either by internal or external forces that needs correction, is the first step in the process of effecting change. In adolescents, a shift to effect change can be a bit more challenging but no fault of theirs. Helping clients to navigate the life courses; expected and unexpected can be an exciting process to experience.

Raised in Waldoboro, Maine. Received my doctorate from University of Hartford in CT. Though I have experience working with individuals of all ages as well as couples and families, I am currently only accepting adults with flexible schedules. I have been trained to assist individuals struggling to regain control of their lives after addiction, trauma, divorce, parental conflict, COVID, and societal BS/HS. I consider myself "eclectic" and use whichever model of treatment fits YOUR challenge. My style meets you where you are at and evolves with the pace YOU are ready for, WHEN you are ready.

Life is a maze of ups and downs, we are taught to push away the downs and "keep moving" without acknowledging our true feelings and needs. Before you know it, fear, anxiety, trauma, depression, self doubt begin to take over and guide our decision making process and life. Your truth, who you are and what you want starts to get lost, life becomes exhausting, unsatisfying and lonely. How might it feel to safely explore and validate your emotions and needs? Deepen your understanding of who you are and how you function through exposure to thoughts, feelings and behaviors that take over and create dysfunction in your life.

I am skilled in helping adult clients manage anxiety, stress, depression, and ADHD.
NEW openings early September-schedule online via our website at Psychology Specialists of Maine! I became a therapist to help others see the good they have trouble seeing within themselves. I love to use humor in my sessions and have yet to meet a client that I could not make laugh while we progress through our work. I use genuine curiosity and openness in exploring your life and what has led you to meet with me. You lived a lot of life before setting foot in my office, and I strive to learn about and accept you just as you are.

ADHD coaching helps you develop skills, strategies, and healthier habits.
I'm a counselor and ADHD coach, specializing in the treatment of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder ( ADHD/ ADD) for adults and couples. I also help adults overcome the lingering effects of childhood trauma (a.k.a. developmental trauma). Most of my clients have both. I also have experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder, another commonly co-occurring condition. I do not work with children. You may find counseling with me to be different than what you’ve experienced in the past. I use techniques that go beyond talk therapy, including EMDR, EFT/Tapping, and Ego State / Parts Work. Because sometimes, talking about it isn't enough.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
