My practice focuses on working with people 18 to 99 on trauma (PTSD), emotional dysregulation, sensory processing needs, life stress, depression and anxiety issues, maternal mental health (postpartum depression, pregnancy & perinatal grief), and family treatment.
I want people to know that therapy begins with choosing to take the step of exploring yourself, an event that has occurred, STRESS, relationships, loss, burnout. That big next step involves developing a trusting and genuine rapport with your clinician. I invite you to reach out and begin that process with me and know that it can be done with humor, understanding, and a very strong believe in the fact that we are not perfect, that we are not made to go it alone all the time, and that we all need somewhere and someone that it can be all about you for a moment.

When we experience trauma we are often flooded with overwhelming emotions, body sensations, and memories. I work with clients to cultivate awareness around identifying the patterns our bodies and minds engage in based on our past experiences. Once we can identify the patterns we can encourage change. Through a trauma-informed lens and with the assistance of my equine co-therapist, we can guide you to reconnect with your body and begin to understand how trauma impacts your nervous system. Together we can begin to understand how trauma shows up for you and work to reprocess trauma and sit with challenging emotions

Many individuals struggle with various difficulties that impact their daily life and their relationships. The difficulties they face often relate to mental health symptoms, underlying personality problems or even medical issues. Theses difficulties can lead to substance abuse, emotional instability or employment problems. Many individuals that struggle with various problems have history of psychiatric and mental health treatment that is often ineffective because frequently they are misdiagnosed. It is critical that an individual is properly diagnosed before any psychiatric interventions are explored.

I believe that seeking help for life's struggles doesn't have to feel like work; in fact, I prefer to take "a spoon full of sugar" approach with people of all ages. I enjoy working with people who are interested in learning about themselves or who find themselves adjusting to transitions. Loss, chronic illness, parenting, anxiety and/or depression are all areas of familiarity.

New season here in Maine is slowly approaching as the February coldness passes. Personal change like the seasons can be a challenge, past experiences may impact the way forward, some need extra help working through trauma or some other issue. My practice could potentially help. I provide services in an up front and honest manner. My approach is to have active dialogue, not just sitting, typing, and waiting for something to happen. This means focusing on a growth mindset, a willingness to heal/change, being realistic, and genuine engagement in therapy. Learning to be responsible for yourself is part of change.

I work with psychotherapy, in a very present way, providing attentive listening, trauma-informed care, helping the client in their search for meaning and emotional processing.
As a psychotherapist, I believe in human interactions as a powerful healing tool. I have been working as a therapist for 30 + years, having started my practice in Brazil, my country of origin, and practicing in the US since 2020. My work is based in Psychodynamic, Jungian Analytical Psychology, and I also provide trauma-informed care using EMDR as a therapeutic tool. My approach is mostly eclectic, meeting the client where they are at, and using evidence-based resources tailored to the client's needs. I see the human life as a journey, full of wonders and hardships, and I feel honored helping someone throughout their unique journey.

I see you scrolling, checking out all these profiles. Bit overwhelming huh? How do you choose? Who is right? Will they judge you? The cool thing is that it's so trendy to have a therapist; weren't you aware? That's why it's so hard to find one these days! But, it is still kind of scary to take the plunge. That's not how it's supposed to be you know; when you enter my office, my one and only goal is to help you feel accepted just how you are, no matter what you're bringing through the door. Kids making you crazy? Partner on your last nerve? Memories or old trauma preventing your from feeling like you can move forward? I can help.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
