I help make life at work better! Career and Workplace satisfaction plays a huge role in our overall happiness and psychological well-being. Yet, many people experience stress and burnout at work, which is often related to complex workplace dynamics, organizational cultures and practices, or imposter syndrome. Others may be navigating career transitions or re-design, and are seeking guidance and support along their journey. I am a Leadership Psychologist, Career Coach, and Psychotherapist who can help! Having navigated my own career re-design, I'm excited to partner with others in optimizing theirs.

CUSTOM COUNSELING, LLC is client centered-focused, counseling each unique individual with a personal approach, understanding and treatment. I believe that, if we don't have a 'connection', a relationship upon which to build trust and confidence in our work, we both won't succeed in our work together. Therefore, I spend as much time as needed, in order for that rapport, that connection, to be solid. Sometimes, it takes a brief time, in order to complete therapy with desired/ positive results; sometimes, it's a longer process. Our sessions don't end until we both feel confident and comfortable with our progress.

Not accepting new clients
I am currently at capacity and not accepting new clients. Are you finding that your life isn't what you envisioned? Are you feeling depleted, anxious, stuck, parenting a challenging child, or wondering who you are? Are you looking for a safe, nurturing environment with a highly skilled practitioner? Especially an authentic person who believes that the process can and should include laughter? Clients are often pleasantly surprised with the wide array of tools and experience I draw on, including guided meditations created based on your preferred images and desired length. I then emailed to you, to access at any time.

Living your best life takes work and no matter where you find yourself, there’s always work to be done.
Counseling is a process, not an end goal; and it’s a process by which challenges can be defined, addressed, and worked on. It’s a process that brings a therapist and a client into safe and confidential relationship built on trust and authenticity. The counselor encourages strength and establishes hope for real change through connection and exploration. We consider choices, challenges, and triumphs together, recognizing that while difficult, change is the vehicle we sometimes need to reach our destination or desired goal.

I am a certified life coach and have been working virtually since 2002.
I have never met an addict or alcoholic with a drug or drinking problem. Does this sound strange? The fact is I've met hundreds of individuals with a solution that is no longer working. Drugs and alcohol have been the solution, not the problem. Addicts and Alcoholics have an above average intelligence and a highly sensitive nervous system. This combination is especially challenging in these unprecedented times when it is natural to reach for relief in the form of a substance or behavioral addiction. If your solution is no longer working, I am here to help. I have maintained sobriety for over nearly 40 years. It can be done.

I've worked with people from all walks of life and and a wide array of challenges.
Tired of having the same arguments over and over? Wondering why you seem to be stuck in cycles with your partner, friends, colleagues or yourself? How often do you find yourself wondering, "what happened to that sweet loving person I fell in love with? How did Godzilla end up in my bed? Or worse yet, is that Medusa staring back at me in the mirror"? OK then.....welcome. I'm Joni Altshuler and after 30yrs in practice, I continue to be inspired and often awe struck by the people who walk thru my door.

I have been a therapist for 20 years helping individuals and couples enlarge their life experience, deepen relationships and make meaning along the journey of life.
The art of therapy is one of listening deeply to what is being communicated. The work in therapy is to make meaning of the information and narrative. The process of therapy is to use the information to guide and effect change.

In spiritual life coaching, I support individuals in finding their path through exploring their values, beliefs and goals.
I am currently accepting new clients. Clinical counseling and coaching services are different, and I welcome the opportunity to discuss both services with potential clients. As people navigate their life journey, they may find themselves caught in reactivity to life's stressors, losing touch with the essence of who and what they are. This can lead to abandoning practices and rituals that nourish their body, mind and soul. In session, clients engage in practices which support rediscovering their potential and creating a life of balance and bliss.

Life Coaching Therapists

What can I expect from life coaching?

Clients and coaches will typically start by identifying the problem area(s) that the client hopes to address—then, the coach will help the client brainstorm potential solutions and explore concrete techniques to help the client attain their goals. Coaching is typically short-term and focused on finding solutions in the here and now, rather than exploring a client’s past. In addition to strategies aimed at the client’s specific concerns, coaches may encourage general stress management techniques such as meditation.

Can a life coach help treat anxiety?

Because the majority of life coaches are not licensed clinicians, they are not qualified to diagnose or treat anxiety. Anyone struggling with anxiety or another mental health condition should seek help from a licensed mental health practitioner. However, some coaching clients who struggle with subclinical anxiety report that working with their coach on other problems—such as career dissatisfaction or unhealthy habits—has a positive effect on their anxiety.

Can life coaching be done online?

Yes. While life coaching often happens in person, many coaches conduct sessions over the phone or via online platforms such as Zoom or Skype. Because life coaches are not subject to local licensing regulations in the same way that therapists are, they are able to see clients who live in other locations.

How long does life coaching last?

Life coaching tends to be a shorter-term process than therapy, though it does not always unfold over a specific period of time and is instead based on the coach’s or the client’s preferences. Coaching often takes place over three to 12 months but may be shorter or longer if necessary.
