I provide individual therapy within a safe and confidential environment. People often find themselves struggling with difficult emotions, feeling uncertain of where they came from, and unsure of how to move forward. I work with my clients to help them recognize what is beneath these emotions, and support them in making positive changes within their relationships and lives. Through this work, people are able to connect with their emotional needs and begin to live a more meaningful and emotionally satisfying life.

Most of us have experienced small and large traumas throughout our lives, and we develop coping mechanisms instead of addressing emotions of the past that affect our present lives. The intention of this work is to help you grow and live fully and be capable of navigating relationships, stress, anxiety, whatever life throws at you. Learn skills and tools that will help you stand strong and become more satisfied with life. You are in charge of what you want to address and what you want to get out of our work. Whether you come as an individual or as a couple my work is to attune with you and help you move forward with your goals.

My approach is all about cultivating a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship between my patients and me. I bring to therapy my years of experience working in special education, developmental therapy, restorative justice, and community mental health as well as my work as a financial counselor. My decade of studying and practicing Ayurveda deeply influences my understanding of individual constitutions and my approach to holistic healing. I work with individuals and couples from ages 16 years and up.

Whitney Hughes and Blue Mind Mental Health, LLC love helping and connecting with people. Stressed out, anxious, angry, lack of communication, depressed, over-scheduled, and overwhelmed are daily themes in my practice and the people I work with. Our lives ebb and flow and at times having a professional outside your closest circle to support you while you navigate can be extremely helpful. I am currently also accepting mental health and emotional wellness coaching clients. I also infuse the power of breathwork into our work together when deemed appropriate.

In the adult client, I especially enjoy witnessing one's ability to reject ineffective patterns of thinking in order to reach and sustain personal growth. Facing what we find to recognize either by internal or external forces that needs correction, is the first step in the process of effecting change. In adolescents, a shift to effect change can be a bit more challenging but no fault of theirs. Helping clients to navigate the life courses; expected and unexpected can be an exciting process to experience.

Congratulations on taking the first step towards therapy. Whether you are new to therapy or not, I like to say that therapy is for everyone. We all benefit when we diversify our support system. Therapy can help us see more clearly ourselves, our relationships and can help us to access our innate strengths. I am honored to help in your journey as you work towards health and the life you want to be living.

I am passionate about working with couples to achieve a more intimate and satisfying relationship. In therapy, I work with each individual to identify issues that are interfering in achieving these and use a strengths-based approach to support clients to develop better ways of relating. I believe that the best way to get to the root of the issue is through being open and direct with clients.

My treatment approaches are grounded in a holistic, relational approach that is strength-based, solution-focused, culturally sensitive, trauma, and compassion focused.
As a dually licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Alcohol and Drug Counselor, the focus of my work is with adolescents (Ages 14-17) who are experiencing issues centered on complex trauma, addiction, and mental health disorders. I also offer counseling to the emerging adulthood population (Ages 18-29) who may be finding challenges navigating transitional events such as leaving home, finishing education, finding employment, redefining relationships with parents, and identity exploration.

My practice is mainly grounded in psychodynamic, psychoanalytic and existential traditions, and I believe in the primary importance of the therapeutic alliance over manualized or brief therapies. Areas in which I have the greatest experience and insight include trauma, depression, anxiety, gender and LGBTQ affirmation issues, and explorations of personal meaningfulness and identity.

I believe we each have our own individual stories and unique experiences in which we face a number of challenges. In my practice I offer a space for those wishing to explore issues, develop skills, and heal past injuries. Incorporating a joy of movement and adventure, I believe health is holistic—combining physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being and balance. I love to surround myself with nature through hiking with my sweet dog Nala, skiing, and gardening. I practice yoga, am a Certified Reiki Master Teacher, and believe in the energy and light within us all.

I am a deep believer in the organic unfolding of our growth and purpose, and that we all possess the ability to hear our soul’s calling towards a more authentic and fulfilled life. Sometimes change is fluid, easeful and exciting. At other times, life speaks to us through crises, illness, burnout or relationship challenges… and other loud ways to make our inner voice known. Sometimes we don’t realize the guidance hidden in the chaos and we struggle to stay afloat. This is where we can use some extra support, and where I would love to help you listen in deeply… for often these difficulties hold the seeds of powerful transformation.

I have over 25 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker in gently supporting people as they explore difficulties in their lives, identify changes they want to make, and learn skills and practices that can help. I assist through deep empathic listening, noticing patterns, and challenging habitual thoughts and ways of coping that are no longer useful. If it's comfortable, I also encourage clients to check in with the felt experience they are having in their bodies during therapy. This can keep the work grounded and let us know whether it's making a difference.

Are you feeling lost? That no one understands? Are you exhausted from constantly masking and are feeling burnt out? As an unapologetically unashamed fat, queer, geeky, AuDHD, and chronically ill therapist, I firmly believe in creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful space, where no subject is taboo. I work well with folx who are seeking a provider familiar with and understands neurodiversity (ADHD and Autism), LGBTQIA2S+, polyamory, kink, sex work, fat body liberation, and chronic illness/disability.
