Over the years, I've used EMDR therapy to help people recover from a wide variety of traumas.
Life threatening experiences sometimes affect us long after the danger has passed. If you find yourself moving through the world in fear, avoiding situations that remind you, even remotely, of the past, EMDR can help. EMDR addresses the cycle of triggering and avoidance that can be so painful and disruptive. The typical course of EMDR is 1-10 sessions. It may sound unlikely that such powerful memories can soften and lose their hold in just a few sessions. But that is what you can expect from EMDR. It is why EMDR is the treatment of choice for PTSD.

I work from a person-centered, trauma-informed, attachment focused, relational approach where you will always be centered in our work.
I have experience in guiding clients through navigating anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, identity, as well as working through relationship and family issues. I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as with athletes and performers. The stage of emerging adulthood brings complex issues: facing big decisions, navigating important relationships, and discovering what we want for our lives. I enjoy working with clients as they explore the impact their environment had on them from an early age, and how it has shaped the person they are today.

As a clinical social worker and person committed to equality, I interweave my understanding of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, culture, family dynamics, trauma, privilege, poverty, and each person’s unique set of life experiences as they powerfully shape a person’s life and the therapy process.
Compassionate Curiosity is the Cure. This is the simple and straightforward explanation of my philosophy and approach to psychotherapy. My primary model for treatment is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, a classic model of treatment that focuses on reshaping core beliefs about self and others that often have deep and complex roots. I am a serious person by nature and take my work very seriously. Patients can expect challenging questions, thoughtfulness, and strong focus on getting to the bottom of unproductive thought patterns and habits (Curiosity), but with humor and caring (Compassion).

I have experience working with trauma, attachment, depression, anxiety, transitions, ADHD and LGBTQIA+ clients.
Hi, I'm Hannah! It can feel challenging to think about starting therapy and overwhelming to know what brings you or your family to seek support. What I know about therapy is that the best fit is usually based on the relationship between the therapist and the client (you). A lot of the time therapy is about how you feel talking to and sitting with that person. I am accepting clients for telehealth sessions only. I look forward to connecting with you!

In response to trauma, loss, or stressors, some people have developed addictions.
In our hurried lives, we sometimes find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from loved ones, or "stuck" and unsure about where we are headed. Some of us may even struggle with a past that continues to define our present. As a counselor, I strive to provide a safe, supportive environment promoting awareness, cultivating strengths, and encouraging lasting change. My clients frequently describe me as warm, genuine, non-judgmental, easy to talk to, insightful and motivating. My style draws upon an experience range including grief/hospice care, family/couple systems, group and individual treatment for clients with severe psychiatric diagnoses, and addiction.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
