My ideal client is that individual who may have experienced some type of childhood trauma and find themselves stuck or lost in life. If you are experiencing some of the following symptoms: depression, anxiety, anger, relational issues, feelings of abandonment, or rejection help is available. You do not have to isolate yourself or live an unfulfilled and meaningless life. Therapy can assist you in changing your life. You can have the life you desire. Sand Tray and Art Therapy is one of the many treatment interventions I utilize to help clients delve into past trauma. It is a safe and non-evasive way to deal with trauma.

I wear many hats in life, and many people in my personal life rely on me. Many of my family and friends view me as a comforter. Though this may be admirable, I teach everyone to be self-sufficient, including my clients. My passion allows me to be available for my life calling of servicing women and families. I do this effortlessly. I understand many aspects of womanhood because my experiences have taught me what it is like to be a single mother, working mother, and now married with bonus children. I love my family, and I love working with women and families. There isn't a women's challenge or trauma that I have not helped.

A young mother walked into my office crying and expressing her belief that asking for help indicated weakness. I thought to myself, it takes a strong person to ask for help. She had forgotten how strong and important she was. I believe the single most important ingredient in a successful therapy is establishing, nurturing, and maintaining a safe, trusting, and genuine relationship. While making use of psychodynamic and family systems approaches to treatment, I am also flexible in assisting patients in understanding patterns of behavior that may contribute to their conflicts and worries.

I draw from many therapeutic orientations, including CBT, psychodynamic, humanistic, and schema therapy, among others, to create a personalized and YOU-centered approach.
Anxiety. Depression. Trauma. OCD. Marital discord. All relevant, all common, all necessary to address. However, one must remember who is hidden behind all the pain and struggle. YOU. Therapy affords the opportunity to peel away the layers and learn to understand yourself better. Therapy helps facilitate the healing of pain, the reduction of symptoms, and the triumph through the various struggles we all face in life. My therapeutic approach is designed to help you discover and understand you within your context and story, to then be able to better address the symptoms and barriers you are facing in life.

I treat adults, adolescents, children, and couples using psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
By listening to people and paying attention to what develops, I collaboratively assist them to understand feelings, thoughts, body experiences, and behaviors. This may remove barriers to living life to the full. We often create these barriers early in life and then continue them through habitual thought, feeling-management, and relationship patterns. Healing occurs in a safe, new kind of relationship. Within this relationship, people may recognize things they have known and not known. Those who openly share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences (including a hesitation to share certain things) are often able to make progress.

I tailor my therapeutic approach to best fit each individual client, primarily incorporating client-centered, psychodynamic, existential, and relational theoretical orientations.
Clients in therapy with me commonly describe a plaguing feeling that there must be a better way to get through life than burdened by so much stress. My approach to wellness can be captured by the quote: "Stress in life is a given; suffering doesn't have to be." My goal in our work together is to examine the unique stressors in your life and help you develop mindful, healthy ways to live with the challenges that inevitably come up in life so that they no longer get in the way of how you want to be living.

I take an integrative approach to therapy and tailor interventions to match your needs, using modern psychodynamic approaches and ACT as my foundation.
I greatly value the opportunity to empower people in their pursuit of well being. You may have a specific concern or a general sense that you wish to move through life differently. I strive to incorporate your values, identities, and unique life circumstances into therapy, working with you as a whole person rather than as a collection of symptoms. I believe that stress and pain are unavoidable parts of life, and that reactions to these can add to distress. In developing and working towards goals together, I consider the quality of our relationship to be a powerful source of healing.

I believe that a strong therapeutic bond is one of the most important aspects of therapy, and is key for successful treatment. I practice a relational form of psychodynamic therapy which focuses on the therapeutic relationship as the site where transformation and deep healing can occur. My areas of clinical interest include depression, treatment-resistant mood disorders, personality disorders, anxiety, loss and bereavement, creative/artistic blocks, and relationship and intimacy issues. I specialize in long-term relational work.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
