It is also working through grief, trauma, or other life challenges.
My areas of expertise include working with children and adolescents, particularly those experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, and general behavior difficulties. I received my PhD in both Clinical and School Psychology and worked for 2 years as a School Psychologist on the Eastern Shore before starting my private practice. My clinical training is in cognitive and behavior therapy. I help adolescents develop positive problem solving skills, which replace their current negative ways of coping. I also counsel adults with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, survivors of abuse, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.

It's never too late! How to embrace the perfectly imperfect person that you are. Many of us mature adults have had to learn to get good at math and realize that we need to come to terms with ourselves. I am passionate about working with late bloomers! Whether through mistakes, failures, regrets, or loss-pain has found its way into our sense of self and its now time to resolve it. We get tired of spinning our wheels on the same issues, repeating relationship patterns, accepting good enough because we don't know how to move forward. Have you considered that support could be the key to growth and a way out of stuck?

With over three years of providing supportive therapeutic services to people of all ages and backgrounds, I have had the honor of walking alongside many as they evolve and heal. My passion for my career derives from knowing (witnessing) that people and circumstances CAN change, that adversity does not have to be in control, and most importantly; there is such power in finding and embracing hope in your journey of healing.

I have 30+ years of experience working with individuals in psychotherapy. I provide a safe and collaborative environment in which we can develop a relationship that promotes healing of the self. Therapy is art as well as science, and I combine compassion and intuition with a solid theoretical base to provide treatment that encourages personal development. I believe our early experiences influence the way that we process our later experiences, and therapy can change how we understand our lives so that our responses can become more adaptive and healthy to live happier, more fulfilling lives.

Very often, our lives can begin to overwhelm what we are able to handle on our own. In these times it can be very easy to begin feeling lost, out of control, or simply out of ideas. I have made it my focus to be able to help people not only identify what is happening in these situations, but helping clients develop skills and personal strength which will help them be able to deal with these struggles in an ongoing fashion.

"Art can permeate the very deepest part of us, where no words exist" -Eileen Miller. I believe in the creative process as a powerful tool for facilitating self-expression, self-discovery, and self-fulfillment by integrating one's physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. I incorporate a variety of modalities, such as Art Therapy (no prior art training necessary), Play Therapy, and Sand Tray Therapy, into sessions while honoring each client's individual strengths and needs. My experience working with those emotionally distressed and my training in trauma theory supports my belief in every person's innate capacity for healing

As a therapist specializing in women’s health, reproductive trauma and loss, & body image and disordered eating, I am dedicated to providing a safe space for you to find freedom and healing.
Whenever we face change, obstacles, loss, and/or new chapters in life, it's natural to encounter a whirlwind of mixed emotions— grief, anxiety, excitement, & fear. Our internal experiences can become so loud, and unsettling at times, that we can miss out on what is happening right in front of us. Together we can find flexibility & freedom when faced with these challenging life experiences. In addition to helping people cope with anxiety, grief, & life transitions, I work with women who are experiencing body image challenges/disordered eating & reproductive health challenges. Women deserve support when navigating these complex issues.

The adolescents I work with struggle with loss related to life transitions: parental divorce or breaking ups are painful and clients need to learn how to express their emotions in a healthy way.
"Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." (Viktor Frankl) Many of those I work with are dealing with issues of grief and loss. Others suffer from addictions and desire to embark on a recovery path, or love someone with addictions and need to learn how to take care of themselves. Many are journeying through resolving trauma, anxiety, stress or depression issues. Regardless of your pain, I am invested in your growth, emotional freedom and creating your wellness plan.

I have extensive experience related to anxiety disorders, mood disorders, relationship issues, grief, life transitions, parenting concerns and destructive patterns.
We have all struggled with something in our lives, and all too often we are kept busy by the stressors and demands of everyday life. Therapy can be a space to take pause and work to understand our individual challenges. As a psychodynamically trained therapist, I can help you explore your emotions, thoughts, and experiences to gain insight into "stuck points" that you may be facing.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
