Perfectionism, people-pleasing, masking, and over-thinking can hold you back from feeling your best or living confidently as your authentic self. At Pine Ridge Therapy, we believe that genuine compassion for oneself is the foundation of an empowered life. I work with teens and adults who struggle with self-compassion, bravery, and authenticity. Most have a complicated past, neurodivergence, or anxiety that is holding them back. Together we can work through these obstacles so that you can learn skills to help you genuinely enjoy life, feel proud of yourself, and learn ways to bring your unique gifts more fully into this world.

I have 30+ years of experience working with individuals in psychotherapy. I provide a safe and collaborative environment in which we can develop a relationship that promotes healing of the self. Therapy is art as well as science, and I combine compassion and intuition with a solid theoretical base to provide treatment that encourages personal development. I believe our early experiences influence the way that we process our later experiences, and therapy can change how we understand our lives so that our responses can become more adaptive and healthy to live happier, more fulfilling lives.

Accepting New Clients! Having a safe space to truly open up to be honest and emotionally vulnerable can be the most freeing experience a person has. I want that experience for everyone; whether it's processing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, broken relationships or feeling stuck. A history of abuse, conflict, generational trauma cycles, unhealthy relationships, constant worrying, high anxiety, or feeling down is the root of what brings people into my office, in person or virtually. Working together we will break you away from that cycle, so you can begin to live free of the things that are holding them back.

I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to working with people. As your therapist, I will work with you to identify your goals for therapy and how we will work towards them. Our work together will blend coping strategies and skills to manage current distress, as well as explore past issues that are influencing present day difficulties.

Ideally, I'd treat clients with a trauma history. Someone with a mixture of short and long term trauma. My ideal client is eager to learn and wants to find a way to become their own safe space. Someone who wants to learn how to set and maintain healthy boundaries, find out their triggers, and treat themselves with patience.

You may be struggling with the following questions: What is stopping me from living a fulfilled and balanced life? What is my value/worth? Am I on the right path? Why do I feel anxious for no reason? Why is it difficult for me to adapt to change? Why can't I connect with my partner? The focus of my work is helping individuals develop healthier relationships with themselves and the people in their lives. Accepting New Clients I have a passion for helping people feel better. I offer a warm, empathic, nonjudgmental approach to treating my clients & always start where my client feels most comfortable. In other words, if you need me to give you guidance I can. If you need me to be a sounding board, I will. If you need pure emotional support I will provide that for you, and if you need constructive problem solving we can work on that together.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
