I have experience treating a wide variety of issues including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma, shame, guilt, relationship issues, and character disorders.
I have 30+ years of experience working with individuals in psychotherapy. I provide a safe and collaborative environment in which we can develop a relationship that promotes healing of the self. Therapy is art as well as science, and I combine compassion and intuition with a solid theoretical base to provide treatment that encourages personal development. I believe our early experiences influence the way that we process our later experiences, and therapy can change how we understand our lives so that our responses can become more adaptive and healthy to live happier, more fulfilling lives.

My areas of expertise include working with children and adolescents, particularly those experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, and general behavior difficulties. I received my PhD in both Clinical and School Psychology and worked for 2 years as a School Psychologist on the Eastern Shore before starting my private practice. My clinical training is in cognitive and behavior therapy. I help adolescents develop positive problem solving skills, which replace their current negative ways of coping. I also counsel adults with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, survivors of abuse, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.

I guide and work with clients ages 11-22 to develop a sense of empowerment through therapy, while utilizing mind-body awareness, self-regulation and relaxation techniques, coping skills, and social-skills-training to reduce anxiety, process trauma, increase self-esteem, develop social skills, and provide an opportunity for creative expression.
"Art can permeate the very deepest part of us, where no words exist" -Eileen Miller. I believe in the creative process as a powerful tool for facilitating self-expression, self-discovery, and self-fulfillment by integrating one's physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. I incorporate a variety of modalities, such as Art Therapy (no prior art training necessary), Play Therapy, and Sand Tray Therapy, into sessions while honoring each client's individual strengths and needs. My experience working with those emotionally distressed and my training in trauma theory supports my belief in every person's innate capacity for healing

Having a safe space to truly open up to be honest and emotionally vulnerable can be the most freeing experience one has. I want that experience for everyone; whether it's processing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, broken relationships or feeling stuck. A history of abuse, conflict, generational trauma cycles, unhealthy relationships, constant worrying, high anxiety, or feeling down is the root of what brings people into my office, in person or virtually. Working together we will break you out of that cycle, so you can begin to live free of the things that are holding them back.

Very often, our lives can begin to overwhelm what we are able to handle on our own. In these times it can be very easy to begin feeling lost, out of control, or simply out of ideas. I have made it my focus to be able to help people not only identify what is happening in these situations, but helping clients develop skills and personal strength which will help them be able to deal with these struggles in an ongoing fashion.

As a person with ADHD, I can relate to the stress and anxiety that people may be experiencing due to the effects of ADHD, and I also teach and build upon executive functioning skills.
I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to working with people. As your therapist, I will work with you to identify your goals for therapy and how we will work towards them. Our work together will blend coping strategies and skills to manage current distress, as well as explore past issues that are influencing present day difficulties.

I enjoy working with kids who are stressed out, angry, anxious or worried and are having difficulty managing it to teach them ways to handle their feelings.
Every day, we hear that our children are struggling. They’re overwhelmed by worry, sadness, anger, and stress. We see them tumble and spiral down a path of unhealthy choices and disconnection from their families. Parents become paralyzed by the fear of doing something wrong. They’re afraid of causing another door-slamming anger outburst but are tormented by the potential consequences of not doing anything at all. They’re left confused by how upset their teens get when their Snapstreaks get interrupted or a round of Fortnite is lost.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
