"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get." Such a true statement! Many of us have to "work with the cards we're dealt," even when those cards leave us feeling as if we have very few choices, and as if we have no control of our lives, but, isn't,"Life what you make it"? With that said, are you happy with life? Are you struggling with the chocolates in your box, or cards dealt you? We welcome the opportunity to offer new perspectives, that could result in a more fulfilled life!

As an LGMFT I now provide a wide range of services such as mental health therapy, marriage and family counseling, couples counseling, individual counseling, and workshops.
I am a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT). Prior to becoming licensed, I worked in the social services field, assisting ex-offenders to reintegrate back into the community. In doing so, I used therapeutic techniques (such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral interventions) to reduce clients' resistance towards change and address antisocial cognitions that were barriers to their success in adapting new prosocial cognitions and behavior.

You find yourself tired, irritable and not really interested in the things that once brought you joy. Or, you are anxious all of the time, waiting for the next shoe to drop. Maybe, you are having problems communicating with your family. You do not feel like persons hear you or do not understand you. If any of these scenarios sound like you or you can relate then it’s time to talk with someone. It’s a new year and it’s time you finally start working on yourself. It’s time to find some peace, address your goals for real and get to work with a therapist who will help you from day one.

I have over 20 years of experience as a licensed clinical professional counselor, specializing in adolescent and family counseling.
With the trying times we now face daily, you may feel like many people have lost their way. The quiet place we used to gather our thoughts and plan for the future seems to be lite years in the past. It can be hard to listen to what our brains tell us when working, caring for others, or distracted, besides the daily struggle of just living. The “New norm” is a struggle that consumes us daily. We’re so used to multi-tasking that we don’t give time and space to sit down and reflect. Scheduling time for yourself is going to be a more critical component of your wellness.

Presenting problems: can include but are not limited to healthy relationships, self esteem, confidence, self talk, suicidal ideation, breaking generational patterns, spiritual trauma, empowerment, motivation, racial justice, and family dynamics.
I am honored to be entrusted with your story and am excited to coauthor this journey with you. My name is Alyson Davis and I believe in the power of storytelling. It is my understanding that the most powerful story we tell ourselves is our personal narrative. I began practicing therapy in 2015 with the primary goal to support individuals with suicidal thoughts, intrusive ideas, hopelessness and despair. This support is rooted in the knowledge that life's storms are impermanent and have the option of either contributing to either our growth, or our destruction. We get to make that choice.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
