Most of us would like to lead beautiful lives, but beauty is an elusive dance partner for the individual who is holding anger and resentment. I offer an individual anger management class. (The Pinnacle Center also offers a group class online.) The class I offer is designed for individuals who want to take the class in-person or who prefer an individual setting as opposed to a group. Since it is an individual program, I can design the individual class to meet the particular needs and schedule of the person enrolling. This individual anger management class is designed to be equivalent to a a 12-week group anger management class.

You may have thought about getting some counseling or coaching for a while. Please set your worries aside. There's not a person alive who couldn't benefit from professional guidance from time to time. Whether you are suffering from chronic pain, anxiety, sadness, anger, a loss of meaning in life, or a difficult relationship, I could be of help. Also, if you simply want to have less stress, a better marriage or improved motivation, I can help. While I do not accept insurance, my office will give you a claim form that you can submit to your insurer. Importantly, I also offer a sliding fee scale for consultation and coaching.

I provide psychotherapy for individuals who wish to work on adjustment issues, interpersonal issues, grief, mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders, trauma, or anger management.
I believe that we learn unhealthy and unproductive ways of thinking that can lead to feelings and behaviors that are detrimental to the fullness of our lives. However, just as we learned to live this way, we can also teach ourselves to live healthy and more fulfilling lives. Through an of exploration of patterns and a CBT approach toward change, I move with clients towards a deeper understanding of current challenges in order to affect change in their lives. I provide an open and non-judgmental space for in-depth discussion of needs and special exploration of strengths and hopes to move towards a healthy and productive life.

Everyone has a story. What is yours? How many chapters does yours include and what are their titles? Your past is likely quite diverse, filled with your best and most joyful moments as well as moments filled with heartache and pain, or feelings of disappointment, anger, sadness, shame, or guilt. You may have spent time wishing that some of these chapters could have been written differently, reflecting different personal, professional, or relational decisions, ability for self-acceptance or acceptance of others, ability to forgive, or even forget.

With the trying times we now face daily, you may feel like many people have lost their way. The quiet place we used to gather our thoughts and plan for the future seems to be lite years in the past. It can be hard to listen to what our brains tell us when working, caring for others, or distracted, besides the daily struggle of just living. The “New norm” is a struggle that consumes us daily. We’re so used to multi-tasking that we don’t give time and space to sit down and reflect. Scheduling time for yourself is going to be a more critical component of your wellness.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
