Making the decision to start therapy can be daunting and anxiety producing, my goal is to ease those feelings and be a comforting support. I aim to make therapy a safe and encouraging space for clients to explore themselves, their goals and build the skills to maintain mental and physical wellness. My approach to therapy is that it's all about you and meeting your needs. We will start where you are, use what you have and go where you want to go. Mental health is more than a diagnosis, it is connecting an intricate web of what makes you you. It's a journey that I would be honored to go on with you.

It can be frustrating and scary when you are struggling and don't know where to find the support you need. You may feel that you have tried everything and you are concerned that things may get worse. It can be difficult to ask for help. Feeling vulnerable is never easy but leads to greater personal connection and overall joy. My style is collaborative and goal oriented. I strive to provide my clients greater self-awareness through insight. Through the therapeutic process, change is possible.

We have all struggled with something in our lives, and all too often we are kept busy by the stressors and demands of everyday life. Therapy can be a space to take pause and work to understand our individual challenges. As a psychodynamically trained therapist, I can help you explore your emotions, thoughts, and experiences to gain insight into "stuck points" that you may be facing.

You can be happy and healthy! I believe there is power and potential in all of us for healing and growth. Therapy can be hard work and it can also be a shelter in the storm. Together we will work through old patterns, shame, trauma, fear, insecurities, etc.. Through deepening self-awareness, compassion and acceptance, you will be able to take better care of yourself and others, set heathy boundaries, and have deeper relationships. We will work to accept and let go of what holds you back so you can live more authentically and make the most of this life. Your story has indeed shaped you but you get to decide how the rest of it goes.

As Board Certified Professional Christian Counselors (BCPCC), we offer care that is distinctively Christian & clinically excellent. We have been extensively evaluated by the AACC & NACC in areas of personal integrity, Biblical principles, personal spiritual journey & walk with Jesus Christ, beliefs about the Bible, & clinical skills. We believe in bringing problems in to the light & applying biblical truth. We are encouragers: lending hope to the hopeless, prescribing interventions, teaching healthy coping skills, & challenging old ways of thinking. We believe therapy is the method, but that ONLY Jesus is the healer.

I provide services for clients who I believe have the capacity to resolve their own problems with my assistance. I offer a professional relationship with my clients to assist them in exploring and resolving difficult issues. I believe that as people become more accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding happiness and contentment in their lives. Self-awareness and self-acceptance are goals that sometimes take a long time to achieve. While some clients may need only a few counseling sessions to feel complete, others may require months. I offer a caring, empathic space to explore, heal and to try new ways of being.

Being human can be so freaking heavy and hard! I’m Jess, and I’m what I like to call mama-thentic. I’m a mama, and I’m authentic! I invite you to come as you are and allow me to walk alongside you on your journey of self-discovery. I will listen, guide, and support as you work towards peace, change, and growth. The greatest gift you can give yourself (and your children) is the most healed version of yourself. Allow me to help so that your past no longer controls your present.

Things have a way of not working out the way they we thought they would. The stories of our lives begin in the families we are given with all of their foibles and experiences. Pages that become chapters of pain, trauma or loss can engulf the one that feels trapped in the narrative. After a plot twist of epic proportions, I left a 16-year career in the intelligence community and began a new chapter. I’ve had to confront the sources, rewrite the narrative, consult the author and find myself in the pages. The refinement process can be a horrific one but in the truth, freedom is found. Together, we can find healing.

You’re not sure when everything became so complicated. Even the things you used to enjoy have turned into overwhelming obstacles. You see the people around you being productive, socializing, and making progress in their lives. Meanwhile, you feel stuck in place, like the world is passing you by. The strategies that you’ve used in the past to help you through just aren’t working anymore. You want so desperately to regain some control of your life. But you just don’t know how. If only there was a way forward. It all feels so hopeless.

Life is a struggle. While we all have had joys to celebrate and call our own, no one escapes the slings and arrows of life's misfortunes. I believe we always respond to those misfortunes in ways we believe is best for us at the time. Sometimes we have clarity. We can proceed in a way that validates who we are and what's in our best interest. Other times, we may not know what to do or act in a way that does not turn out as well. We suffer as our past ways of handling this situation no longer fits to meet our present needs.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
