To me, the most important part of the therapeutic process is building rapport. I do my best to make my client's feel as comfortable as possible as they prepare to share their stories with me. Some people have a fear of therapy, but therapy is not something to be afraid of. If you are ready to take a step towards healing feel free to contact me.

There are times in life when we face obstacles and transitions that challenge our ability to change and cope in healthy and effective ways. This leaves us feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and defeated. I am deeply passionate about helping children (ages 12+), adolescents and adults adjust to life transitions. I work closely with clients to help them develop and utilize healthy coping skills. Through a solution-focused lens, I assist clients to view the problem from a new perspective. I provide an authentic experience that challenges clients to push past the feeling of being "stuck" and learn to let go of things you cannot change.

I believe in the power of vulnerability and sharing with an unbiased party, which is where therapy starts. I also believe in the power of feeling seen and heard. If you're troubled, I'll provide you with a space for unconditional support. If you're too comfortable, I'll create a space for gentle challenging. What I can’t promise is a quick fix. Biologically I believe we are not hard wired for change, and healing takes time. My insight-oriented and solution-focused approaches help with a range of core issues.

The capacity to feel vulnerable is shared by all human beings. Vulnerability is often equated with weakness and because of such a mindset many of us spend our lives shielding ourselves from leaning into any one emotion too intently. From that fear and discomfort we begin to invalidate many aspects of the human condition. My goal with the individuals I work with is to help them embrace the opportunity to view vulnerability as an opportunity to build resiliency. I have a very organic process to developing a therapeutic relationship and if nothing else I would like individuals to walk away feeling seen and heard.

Solution Focused Brief (SFBT) Therapists

How does solution-focused therapy work?

The treatment works by helping a client notice which behaviors and thoughts have positive results on their lives and building a plan around how to maximise these strengths. Practitioners of solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) believe that individuals already have the experience, wisdom, and resilience to create change in their lives, but may need a guide to help them realise which changes to make and how to make them.

Is solution-focused brief therapy evidence-based?

Yes. Solution-focused brief therapy has been extensively studied, and researchers find strong evidence that it’s an effective treatment for many behavioral and psychological concerns. This may be due to the uplifting nature and practicality of the treatment, which allows patients to employ strategies to reach their goals that are incremental and achievable.

How long does solution-focused brief therapy last?

Solution-focused brief therapy, as the name implies, is brief. The timeline may vary from person to person, given the challenges they face and their situation in life, but treatment is typically complete within four to eight sessions. This therapy type is a pragmatic one: it’s concerned more with “how” problems can be addressed and improved than getting to the root of “why” they exist in the first place.

Is solution-focused brief therapy a type of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Solution-focused brief therapy is related to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)in that both are pragmatic approaches that deal less with gaining a full understanding of the cause of a mental health problem and more with creating plans for how to cope with these problems and improve an individual’s day-to-day life. They are distinct, however, in that SFBT emphasises building on strengths and resources, while CBT focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviors.
