I incorporate psychodynamic, attachment, mind-body and trauma-informed techniques with expertise in trauma and play based treatment models. The intention behind my work is to help clients strengthen coping skills, build emotional self-awareness, foster healthy relationships and process the impact of life transitions and trauma

Do you feel like you are struggling to understand your child? Perhaps your child is struggling at home, school, or other social environments? I specialize in helping children find their voice to effectively communicate and help bridge the parent child relationship. Parenting doesn't come with an instruction manual and can often become overwhelming. Through our work together I can help build the confidence needed to navigate the difficult situations often faced by both children and parents today. I connect with children by using play therapy, expressive arts, and other developmentally appropriate interventions.

By provide parenting tips I can help you re-connect and support your child or teen.
Is your adolescent struggling with making good choices, experiencing anxiety, being bullied, or simply not thriving? When children enter school they may be exposed to new peer pressures, academic demands or uncertainty in their environment. Children tend to withdraw or demonstrate behavior changes when they are faced with challenges they don't know how to navigate. Parents often struggle with how to best support their child. This is where counseling for children, teens and college students can provide guidance in supporting a child's social, emotional and academic growth. Having a neutral adult relationship in their lives can help!

My 30 years of experience include working with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, relationship conflicts, self-esteem issues, family, parenting, and divorce, and workplace/school-related issues.
There are times in life when it is difficult to believe that we will ever reach our dreams, hopes, goals, or have the future for which we had hoped. We may be feeling stuck, lonely, and unable to develop or access our wisdom and strengths. Too often, challenging life situations or decisions made in the past tend to have a lasting effect on our lives. I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow, change and heal our relationships with ourselves, our significant others, and those around us.

I help moms adjust to their new identities and learn how to better regulate their emotions and achieve their parenting goals.
You are a mother who is feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. You may be feeling worried, sad, or stuck and not sure how to feel better. Your previous ways of coping aren’t working as well as they used to. You’re exhausted and feel like you’re failing in all of your roles. You may feel intense anger or resentment at your partner or family. You’re not the parent or partner that you want to be and you’re not sure how you can balance it all. You have high standards for yourself and fear judgment of others. You worry that you're just not good at being a mom and regularly experience guilt or shame.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
