Utilizing a strength-based focus, I integrate techniques from various theories and modalities such as: cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, internal family systems, mindfulness, attachment and narrative therapy.
Finding a good therapist is like shopping for a good pair of shoes. Why, you might ask. It’s all about the fit. You usually choose shoes that are most comfortable and suit you best. Whether you may have gone to a therapist before or have never been – whether you had awful experiences in the past or none at all. Successful therapy is about finding the right fit; about finding a relationship where you have a safe space to bring any and all of your feelings and challenges.

Hello! I love working with kids, teens, and their parents on responding to big, overwhelming feelings. I’m also passionate about supporting women transitioning to motherhood and those coping with the day to day stressors of being busy parents. I can assist parents in managing their own symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, and/or executive dysfunction while parenting. Another area of passion is helping teens and adults move away from rigid, disordered eating and towards the freedom of intuitive eating through improving their distress tolerance and self-compassion.

We all face experiences that are often difficult, painful, and even traumatic. So many of us face these situations feeling alone, overwhelmed, ashamed, and vulnerable. I believe healing and transformation comes from within, by reconnecting with our inner wisdom, becoming more self-aware, and growing more in self-love and compassion. Pain and vulnerability can also teach us a lot about ourselves and be incredibly healing. If you are struggling with relationship problems, life transitions, depression, anxiety, past traumas, feel stuck, or grieving the loss of a loved one, I can help you face these challenges.

Everyone, including you (and your partner), deserves a space where they feel seen, heard, and understood. With a collaborative approach, I seek to create that safe environment where individuals and couples can explore and transform their stories, finding healing and integration. Working from an attachment theory lens, I provide strategic, practical, and holistic support while facilitating a deeper journey inward that gets to the core issues. I integrate emotionally focused therapy (EFT), CBT, and attachment theory with client-centered therapy. Together, we will work towards growth, self-awareness, insight, and change.

Who are you and who do you want to be? For many people, that’s a terrifying question riddled with feelings like anxiety, insecurity, hopelessness, fear, dread, etc. Yet you’re here, on PsychologyToday, hoping to move closer to the person that you want to be. That’s where we start. The first question that I ask during an intake session is “when you imagine being successfully done with therapy, what does your life look like?” Well, really the first question is "how are you?" followed by shared laughter at the conditioned "good, how are you" response. Then that vision of yourself is what we use to guide us along the therapy journey.

You are struggling with something weighty. It might be a death, a newly diagnosed illness, a divorce, a lost job, or a chronic illness. You want to figure out how to carry this weight and not lose yourself to anxiety, sadness or grief. Perhaps your life is changing because you now find yourself with an empty nest, a new identity or a transgender family member. What you used to know doesn't fit your life anymore. I don't know all the answers, but between us, I know we can find the way forward and achieve the peace you seek.

The stories others tell about us and the ones we tell ourselves help to shape the landscape of our lives. Life is also full of profound mystery. Sometimes, we find ourselves navigating a landscape that bears no resemblance to the one we imagined. We suffer unimaginable losses, injustices and pain, and frequently there are no answers explaining why. Additionally, finding our way can be exhausting and leave us feeling sad and defeated. In those times, it's easy to forget (or perhaps, no one ever told or showed us) the truth that we absolutely matter; we are deserving of acceptance and kindness, and we are worthy of respect and love.

Life is hard, and we are not born knowing all the answers. Many challenges are thrown our way and it's up to us to find our way through life as best we can. Life can have us feeling stuck, helpless, and confused. I approach therapy as an opportunity to provide others a safe non-judgemental space to learn about themselves, grow, and address challenges that may impact the way we interact with and feel about the world. As a queer-identified therapist, I am passionate about providing care to individuals who are questioning or identify with the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

We could all benefit from an outside perspective during life's stressors. I am here to listen, support, and empower you on your journey to clarity and making meaning from your experiences. Seeking support is a courageous step, not a sign of weakness.  Especially during the chaos, it can certainly be painful to feel lost, overwhelmed, and unsure of where to turn whether personally, professionally, or both.  My approach co-creates a judgment-free space where you can explore your challenges, uncover your inner strengths, and gently cultivate hope and resilience.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
