I prefer to use relational and psychodynamic approaches to therapy, exploring significant relationships and their underlying dynamics.
Telehealth Spots Are Currently Available! Far too many of us are sleepwalking through life because we haven't yet done the important work of understanding ourselves and our relationships. Becoming an integrated, authentic and wholehearted person doesn't happen overnight, but the benefits of this work are enormous. I am passionate about helping people remove the psychological and social barriers that prevent them from flourishing. Anxiety, depression, and addictive behaviors are often symptomatic of underlying issues that can be surfaced with a trusted therapist.

Mental health and relationship issues are all too common and we each have our own unique way of experiencing them. Therapy is a place to realign this weight we carry and build a better relationship with our challenges. I provide a space for this exploration, one where you can get personal and vulnerable, laugh and cry, sometimes even curse and yell, and also informational and straight to the point. Together, we would do this by building trust and learning how our body-mind connection impacts our mental health.

Emotional Pain. It is something we've all experienced. However, we often tend to sidestep and ignore it instead of confronting and embracing it. This leads to stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. I work with my clients to become comfortable with feeling the pain of their past and present in a safe and healthy environment, enabling them to live a more wholesome lifestyle.

The first light of day peeks through the blinds. You’re awake, already lost in a dense forest of anxious thoughts. Always an over-thinker, you're so familiar with the dark cloud of worries and what-ifs that easily spiral out of control. Dragging yourself out of bed, your reflection reveals the cost of many nights of less than restful sleep. The well-known knot appears in your belly as you imagine the ways things could go sideways today. Armoring up as you dress to leave, each button and zipper reminds you of the inner and outer dragons to be slayed. Will you ever shake the feeling of impending failure and wasted potential?

My passion is helping women who do too much and love too much. If you’re a woman who is feeling worn out, worried, and needing to regroup, I want to work with you. Together we’ll focus on helping you get quality sleep, clear your head of negative self-talk, and figure out who told you you don’t measure up; learn where this huge need to be everything to everyone came from so we can pull it out by its roots. And then the fun part begins–learning to do nice things for yourself, finding your joy, shaking resentments, learning to enjoy saying “no,” and living the life you want for yourself. It's time to get started with a clear plan.

I help people using strategies and therapies such as CBT, DBT and psychodynamic approaches.
What stumbling blocks are getting in your way. If you are trying to manage issues related to eating disorders, depression or anxiety then I am available to help you. I help those who are struggling with managing both internal and eternal strsssors. This may include working on various thoughts that hold you back from feeling better about what’s important to you. I will ask you about what you want and need realizing that not being sure is often a most significant part of the therapy process. Untangling the feelings, thoughts and behaviors gives rise for hope and change.

I draw from principles of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral and attachment theories and I am client centered.
As a psychologist my number one goal is to approach you with acceptance, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. Through my work as a psychologist I have come to believe in the capacity of people to change. I welcome individuals that are questioning why their own attempts to improve the quality of their lives is not working. Often there can be mixed feelings about change. I recognize that change is difficult. I feel that self exploration is a challenge that often requires courage and risk.

I believe that a strong therapeutic bond is one of the most important aspects of therapy, and is key for successful treatment. I practice a relational form of psychodynamic therapy which focuses on the therapeutic relationship as the site where transformation and deep healing can occur. My areas of clinical interest include depression, treatment-resistant mood disorders, personality disorders, anxiety, loss and bereavement, creative/artistic blocks, and relationship and intimacy issues. I specialize in long-term relational work.

I draw from many therapeutic orientations, including CBT, psychodynamic, humanistic, and schema therapy, among others, to create a personalized and YOU-centered approach.
Anxiety. Depression. Trauma. OCD. Marital discord. All relevant, all common, all necessary to address. However, one must remember who is hidden behind all the pain and struggle. YOU. Therapy affords the opportunity to peel away the layers and learn to understand yourself better. Therapy helps facilitate the healing of pain, the reduction of symptoms, and the triumph through the various struggles we all face in life. My therapeutic approach is designed to help you discover and understand you within your context and story, to then be able to better address the symptoms and barriers you are facing in life.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
