Welcome! I'm so glad you found this space. Looking for a therapist can be so overwhelming. Congratulations on taking this step! As a therapist, I seek to provide a warm, non-judgmental, and validating space to unpack the difficult emotions and experiences that are getting in the way of your ability to make it through your day-to-day. Whether you are a teen, young adult, or adult, I can help you gain insight, introduce you to new coping strategies, and help you move towards acceptance and growth. In session, I aim to create meaningful relationships with genuineness and empathy (and maybe even humor at times).

My approach is always first guided by what your individualized needs may be, in addition to drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy concepts.
If you are feeling stuck in a cycle of unhealthy thought patterns, plagued by the stress of strained relationships, or feeling overwhelmed by a change in your life, I would love to help you begin to increase your ability to cope and adapt to all that life has thrown at you. I genuinely enjoy building a trusting and friendly relationship with my clients. Our work together may look like taking time to process feelings, confronting difficult issues, and learning new, productive ways of handling life's many curveballs. The power of taking time for yourself and feeling heard by another person is often underestimated.

I practice nonjudgmental acceptance of the client with unconditional positive regard to create a relaxed and open environment for self-expression.
I serve clients who struggle with anxiety, ADHD/ADD, depression, self-esteem, and suicidal thoughts. My theoretical views are based off of Cognitive Behavioral Theory in which our thoughts, emotions and behaviors have a cyclical effect on each other. In order to change our behavior, we must first learn how our thoughts/beliefs affect our emotions and behaviors. Goals may include building coping and emotional regulation skills, self-esteem, self-awareness, mindfulness skills, acceptance, conflict resolution, and communication skills.

I do my best to make my therapy space as welcoming, warm, and inviting as possible. I believe we all have our own unique story nobody else can truly understand, but I do my best to get to know you and your story to help you understand what is going on, where it comes from, and how to overcome the barriers and challenges so you can be the best version of yourself possible. I work with my clients at their pace to accommodate their needs and comfortability, but I do not plan on seeing any of my clients for life. What you are able to learn with me will ideally be usable in the long run to help with any future challenges or barriers.

I enjoy working with teens and young adults who are hoping to step into the calm confidence, empowerment and joy that I believe is inherent in all of us. Life's challenges can sometimes become so overwhelming, we find ourselves disconnected from our spark and overcome with low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, unsatisfying relationships and disempowerment - but no one has to be stuck there. The overarching goal of my work is to use the immense power of genuine, authentic human connection to re-spark the fire within those who have found themselves feeling dim.

Welcome! Having practiced social work for over twenty years in a medical setting that focused on both mental and physical health, a holistic and positive approach to treatment is essential. I stress the mind and body connection while taking into account community and environmental factors. Loss comes in many forms and affects all a person’s systems.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
