I know how challenging life can be, especially during transition or stress. Going to college, starting a new career, dealing with family and/or relationship changes, and experiencing an illness can all cause anxiety and mood changes. These times can be even more difficult if you already struggle with a lack of confidence and low self-esteem and don't have the tools to manage your stress and anxiety. Finding mental health treatment is no easy task. It can be frustrating to navigate insurance and find the right provider. But don't worry; I'm here to help!

My ideal client is anyone, from pre- teen to adult, grappling with the challenges of self-discovery, emotional expression, and finding their place in the world. They may experience anxiety, depression, or trauma, often feeling disconnected or pressured to fit into societal expectations. They could be neurodiverse, disabled, LGBTQ+, or straight and cisgender. I also work with military service members. My clients seek a safe, empathetic space to explore and embrace their authentic selves. Their goal is to better understand who they are, build self-acceptance, and navigate life's transitions with greater confidence and resilience.

I understand that children and adolescents see the world in a unique way, and therefore, need specialized, client-centered treatment to help them express themselves and communicate in an age and developmentally appropriate way.
I work with young children, adolescents, and families who are struggling with behavioral challenges, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, executive functioning, trauma, ADHD, social skills, and family transitions. I believe that forming a strong judgement-free partnership is the basis for positive change and that therapy, although challenging at times, should be engaging and fun. I also recognize that treatment is not a “cookie-cutter” solution and prioritize working together to determine what is best for each individual client.

Grief is a deep sorrow we experience after we are faced with losses in our lives. These losses can be because of someone we knew and loved, or a life transition. These losses can be expected, such as a loved one dying from an illness, or sudden, such as someone dying by suicide. Regardless of the reasons for the grief, everybody grieves differently. It is important to also remember that loss and grief are not only the result of a death. Many people grieve due life changes such as the loss of a job, a marriage etc..

With over 12 years of experience working with adults, young adults, adolescents, and families, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges these transitions can bring.
I am dedicated to utilizing my extensive experience and education to assist individuals and families in promoting growth and self-understanding in their mental health. My goal is to help manage day-to-day life challenges and navigate life transitions. These transitions—whether for older adults facing significant life changes, young adults moving from college into the workforce, or adolescents transitioning from high school to college—can be daunting and anxiety-inducing. They often bring feelings of being stuck, fears of the unknown, and issues related to separation from family and friends.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
