I utilize techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and am currently accepting new patients. I enjoy working with a diverse group of individuals who have various levels of mental health challenges. My approach to psychotherapy comes from an understanding that every individual is unique and that various life experiences as well as genetic makeup contribute to one's overall mental health. I take into account the particular needs of the individual & focus on the current problem while also processing & exploring further in an attempt to identify & resolve the root of the issue.

I am intensively trained in DBT and use an eclectic approach.
Spill the tea! It can be difficult to discuss what is truly going on in your head. It may seem like you’ve tried everything, but nothing seems to work, at least not for very long. It can be scary to reach out to a counselor because you are not sure that you can find someone that you can really connect with and help you make changes in your life.

“I've been anxious for a long time. I used to be able to manage, but I feel like I've lost control. I worry that I'm going crazy, or that something inside of me is broken. I just want all of this to stop. I want to feel calmer and more confident. I want to look to the future with interest and optimism, rather than with fear and hopelessness. I've tried everything, including medicine, but nothing has worked in a lasting way. I fear I’m running out of options, and that scares me."

My clients are smart, successful people who want to create change in their lives. Does your life look good on paper, but you don't feel happy or fulfilled? Experiencing mild to moderate anxiety or depression? Maybe, like many, you suffered trauma, now interfering with your quality of life. You want insight and action, process and results, to feel and perform better. Maybe you are the concerned parent of a child, seeking help for emotional or behavior problems. You want a trusted therapist for your child who will include you in their treatment, and who will provide you with information and realistic strategies you can use at home.

I understand that each individual is not an illness or label, rather a person with multiple contributing factors towards his or her distress and/or reasons that are his or her impetus for seeking help. For this reason, I try my best, as renowned psychotherapist Irvin Yalom puts it, to “create a new therapy for each client.”

I generally enjoy working with clients working through self-esteem issues, anxiety, and depression. Typically they are looking for ways to reframe negative thoughts, identify triggers and cognitive distortions, and find a path to the best version of themselves. Many of these clients have struggled with these issues long enough to have experienced negative consequences and reduced life chances. We work to rewrite their inner script and learn to make choices that enhance their life.

Whether an individual, couple or family are struggling with issues that appear to be a bump in the road of life, stressors that appear to make them feel stuck with no possibilities or are dealing with catastrophic events that have occurred, I work to meet the client where they are at, with the goal to work with them to come up other possible solutions that allow them to get unstuck and make the change that they are hoping to make.

I utilize solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavior, music, narrative and EMDR therapy.
Often times what we desire the most are also the things that trigger great fear in us. Sharing our vulnerable stories can be scary, but you are not alone. We all need someone to hold a space for us, to listen without judgement and have a heart to understand. This is the reason for my approach, a collaborative approach. This allows me to meet you directly where you are. We are in this together.

In addition to these interventions, I use an eclectic and individualized approach using concepts from Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Rational Emotive Therapy (RET).
The single most important factor in helping children and adolescents heal after experiencing potentially traumatic events is having a supportive and responsive caregiver. This crucial piece of information applies to children and families who have experiences potentially traumatic events, or are struggling with depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or behavioral/relational difficulties. As a licensed psychologist, I have had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and their families who have experienced a wide range of traumatic events. Visit us at brightstarthealth.com.

As a DBT therapist, I support clients in navigating life transitions by teaching emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills.
My ideal clients are women navigating life transitions amidst uncertainties and pressures, filled with excitement yet also significant anxiety. They face fear of the unknown, pressure to succeed, and societal expectations, feeling anxious and inadequate while balancing family, work, and personal life. They seek a supportive environment to express themselves, gain clarity, manage stress, find emotional stability, and build self-confidence. Their goals are to achieve a healthy work-life balance, feel empowered, and navigate transitions to find fulfillment and happiness.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
