My specialty is centered around those who are undergoing reproductive challenges including struggling to become pregnant, stay pregnant, or adjust post-pregnancy. Whether I'm working with an individual, couple, or a group, I continually seek out feedback as to how treatment is progressing for them. Therapy should be an effective collaborative effort. Additionally, I'm certified in EMDR which helps to alleviate what might be stuck in the body so that the mind can heal.

I also incorporate Relapse Prevention, DBT, Psychodrama, Gottman Method, and EMDR Therapy when appropriate.
I am honored that my clients share their deepest secrets with me every day. I am grateful for the trust they place in me and I value their need for confidentiality. I make an effort to listen to my clients and hear what they say to learn what they need to grow. Every client is a person who is much greater than their problem behavior or diagnosis. While I have extensive training in treating trauma and sexual behavior problems, I also have experience and training in treating other mental health problems such as: Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder, ADHD, and chemical as well as process addictions.

As of 4/13/24, multiple openings in Frederick & Rockville with new therapists... Welcome! I’m so glad you're here. I believe most people can benefit from the support of a nurturing, therapeutic environment. I’ve never met anyone who has said they have too much support in their life. I would be honored if you allow me into your life, and we can work toward developing the support you need.

I am a Certified EMDR Therapist.
We all experience ups and downs in our life. At times, though, our challenges become overwhelming and difficult to manage alone. Unresolved trauma may be affecting your overall mental and physical wellness. Or, you may be struggling with relationship and marital challenges; grief; facing difficult life transitions; or dealing with symptoms related to anxiety or depression. It is important to know, however, that you are resilient and you have ability to heal, improve self-awareness, and make healthier and positive changes in your life.

I use EMDR to create new pathways in the brain, allowing information that might have gotten stuck the opportunity to begin to move forward, so memories won't be as triggering.
I am passionate about helping my clients erase generational curses, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and anger, so they can go beyond surviving and enter into a new phase of life, where thriving begins. During intake, we discuss your needs and collaborate to create a pathway to help you achieve your goals.

For trauma survivors, I am trained in EMDR, which is a powerful trauma treatment.
Struggling with an eating disorder can negatively impact every aspect of your life. I love helping my clients to make peace with food their bodies, and themselves. Being a survivor of trauma may cause you to feel unsafe in the world and in relationships, feel constantly "on guard" or like you are "waiting for the other shoe to drop," and experience increased anxiety. My passion is helping individuals with eating disorders and survivors of trauma to improve their lives. If you are tired of feeling trapped in an eating disorder or existing in survival mode as you deal with the impact of trauma-I can help.

EMDR, art therapy
We as human beings may encounter overwhelming challenges that can leave us feeling powerless or hopeless. These emotional disturbances and negative thoughts often come from old self-beliefs and deeply rooted emotions from unresolved past experiences that are adverse or even traumatic. We all have the inherent ability to build resilience and embrace challenges for growth and healing. I help my clients reconnect with their resilience, improve insight into their issues, and ultimately find their own path to happiness, hope and a sense of wholeness.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
