Hi! My name is Zoe, and I am so glad you are here. My passion is to provide therapy for all; all the while creating an emotionally safe, supportive, and open environment. I incorporate DBT therapy in sessions (when I see fit) to help us as humans learn and understand what emotions can do for us and what they mean. As we explore a range of thoughts and emotions through your journey of self discovery, we can open up new doors and perspectives; together. Overall, I hope to provide care for individuals who have suffered in invalidating environments that hope to build a life worth living. I can't wait to start working with you!

I know that asking for help can feel like a burden sometimes. Do you feel like you have to be “everything” to everyone but feel alone when your in need? Are you struggling to say “no” then resent your yes? Do you put everyone before you and then don't have enough time for you or your dreams? Do you feel “stuck” after giving so much and then realize your not making progress in your life? More often than we realize, we tend to lose ourselves giving what we don’t have while trying to manage it all; parenthood, relationships, careers, and life situations. We then become overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, or stuck about our next move.

You’re tired of being the “strong one.” At home, on the job, and even among your friends, you’re the one everyone calls when they need a solution. You’re so good at supporting others that no one knows you’re secretly falling apart – no one asks. Maintaining this image is exhausting, but you barely have time to notice the emotions. You bury your feelings with more work, so no one ever sees the real you. Ironically, the one person you never show up for is you. You’re an expert at meeting expectations, but it’s time you started taking care of yourself. It’s been so long. You’re not sure you remember how.

You’ve accomplished so much. You have a fulfilling career, good friends, a comfortable income and lovely home. By all appearances things are great, and you feel completely in control in most areas of your life. But relationships are a different story.. they either don't stick or never take off, and they all seem to follow the same pattern - the initial hope and excitement of seeing someone new gives way to doubt, and once you get that sinking feeling, it all unravels from there. You see friends and coworkers getting married and starting families and wonder why it’s so easy for them. "What's wrong with me?"

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
