I love working with teens and adults who are tired of feeling trapped by obsessive compulsive disorder, exhausted from struggling with an eating disorder, or hate what they see when they look in the mirror.

When your life is turned upside down and you don't know how to carry on, your biggest question is "who will be there to support me"? Keeping your life balanced needs a well balanced mind, and a strong heart. We need some encouragements to accomplish our goals. when we struggle to overcome the most difficult and the darkest days of our life, we need compassion and caring hands, we need an expert with empathy and understanding to guide us pass through barriers and obstacles. We need someone so we can trust without having a fear of being judged.

I’m proud to be a wise elder. I have academic strengths & years of working with people, but most of all, I have the wisdom that comes with age & the intuition to connect & mindshare with you. Maybe you’ve never felt understood & have a negative self-concept projected onto you by dysfunctional elders that you carried into the present. Know that you have the innate human ability to heal. You can be helped to see the roots of your old maladaptive beliefs & you can replace them with positive, realistic ones for today-a new narrative for your life.

My ideal client seeks a therapist who understands the complexities of their lived experiences. They may be struggling with issues like trauma, addiction, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, identity struggles, life transitions, existential concerns, or oppression. They would come to me because they need a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore their emotions and experiences, seeking personal growth, well-being, and fulfillment. They choose me for support in achieving a fulfilling life, recognizing my capacity to guide them through personal growth and empower them to access their transformative potential.

My ideal client may need help with confidence, relationships, or learning who they are. They aim to reduce symptoms of clinical diagnoses and work with me to see progress in their lives. This client would want to learn more about themselves and improve their relationships with others and with themselves. They would be a motivated and insightful client who attends sessions regularly and comes prepared with topics to discuss. I would help this client by listening to them and their thoughts, offering support, and building a rapport with them.

Sometimes the reasons people seek therapy are hard to pinpoint or articulate. Other times the totally unexpected brings a person into therapy. Often it is the thing one least wants to discuss. The reasons are countless, but they always matter. They affect our thoughts and our relationships, often quite deeply. My purpose as a therapist is to develop a relationship and a context that feels restorative and safe through which my patients and I can grapple with any and all concerns imaginable. Through intimate conversation and our shared experience emerge feelings, buried fears, and the previously unknowable.

I love working with teens and adults who feel exhausted from thinking so much about food and their body. Who wish they could just 'eat normally' but can't even remember what that feels like anymore. Or those who are worried about your teen who is struggling with an eating disorder. Whether you are seeking eating disorder therapy for yourself or a loved one, I can help.

I believe that long-lasting and meaningful change is most likely to occur in the context of validation and acceptance. I approach my clients with openness, compassion, and curiosity. Such a stance ensures that any treatment plan we develop is comprehensive, culturally-sensitive, personalized, and effectively considers the unique experiences and situations that contribute to the challenges you face. Moreover, although it is important that you experience relief from your symptoms, it is even more important that this relief is in service of helping you build the meaningful life you want to live.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
