My training in clinical counseling and art therapy allows me to address and effectively treat complex mental, behavioral, and emotional issues using multiple modalities.
My work consists of a collaborative exploration of your needs and hopes in a supportive and culturally sensitive environment. Past and present life adversaries often shape the way we feel and interact. Examining our unhealthy patterns and incorperating our strengths in a trusting therapeutic relationship, can elicit experiences of personal growth, living a richer life and increasing our propensity for healthy and adaptive relationships. I work well with a range of psychological needs and concerns; anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, relationship issues, self - esteem, life changing events and trauma are some of the areas that I welcome in our exploration.

Together we can discover what’s going on under the surface and better understand your emotions and why you’re feeling what you’re feeling! Through talking it out, creating art, journaling, mindfulness, and EMDR, I help clients dive deeper to gain increased insight into themselves.
I’m an anxiety and trauma therapist providing online therapy in Maryland and in-person in Roland Park, Baltimore! I help perfectionists and people-pleasers to repair, heal, and strengthen their relationship with themselves and those around them. We all have life experiences that shape who we are, how we view the world around us, and inform our emotional responses. There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to therapy, every individual is unique and has their own wants and needs for this process, so I use a collaborative approach to figure out what works best for you.

By taking the first step toward obtaining therapeutic services, the client has already proven bravery and openness. My ideal client would put as much effort as possible in that moment, moment, or day to continue prioritizing their mental health and related needs. My ideal client, over time, would be able to identify what supports them vs. what does not.

I received my MA in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University of DC, formerly American School of Professional Psychology. My background before studying Psychology was as a pediatric nurse and later a family childcare provider in Germany. These 15 years of this practical experience, enriched my expertise in the field of individual therapy and counseling especially when it comes to children. Nevertheless, my education and professional experience over 7 years leading up to Licensure prepared me for providing therapeutic services to individuals of all ages. A sound clinical knowledge-base ensures proper diagnosis and treatment based on current research and methods.

I’ve experienced all the usual things in life, career, marriage, divorce, career change, mid-life crises and I’ve learned that, while styles and customs evolve and technology is changing our world at lightning speed, human nature and relationships—what we want and need in life, how best to get it, and how to cope when we don’t—remain constant.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
