I treat adolescents to young adults with a history of trauma, anxiety, and self-esteem issues.
Your struggles are valid. Do you feel like you don't want to be a burden to others by sharing your feelings or talking about trauma that happened so long ago? Do you lay up at night replaying events from that day because you think you upset someone? If you are exhausted from lacking good boundaries, find yourself triggered into emotional outbursts, dealing with shame, anxiety, insomnia, panic attacks or self-doubt, I want to walk with you through the weird, embarrassing, and painful parts of your life so that you can discover comfort, acceptance, hope and strategies to reduce the power that your triggers have over you.

I have successfully treated people with anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship issues.
I appreciate the need for short-term, cost-effective treatment. With 30 years of experience and a compassionate style, I specialize in brief solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral therapy so you can experience relief in a more immediate way. In our first session, we can establish a connection and work together to find solutions to help you gain peace of mind. For some issues, 10 or fewer sessions are all that is needed, while other issues require more time.

In my practice, I provide psychological services to children, adolescents, adults, and parents, specializing in the treatment of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders.
What if life's stressors could feel a bit more manageable? What if we could set ambitious, yet realistic goals and accomplish them one-by-one? Despite all of the stressors facing us on a day-to-day basis, positive change is attainable. My approach to therapy is strength-based and involves a warm, collaborative process in which we assess barriers to success, set realistic goals, and monitor progress over time.

I counsel professionals who are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse issues that are impacting them at work and in their personal relationships. I embrace a strengths-based approach of therapy that emphasizes collaboration with a client to identify and utilize the strengths they already have to achieve the goals that are important to them. I also understand the value in meeting clients where they are now before we can start working on their therapeutic goals.

Fears, anxiety, and depression can be debilitating. I have the ability to listen warmly and compassionately to what you're saying even if you are feeling jumbled or confused. I create a safe space for you to be able to vent. Often having a person listen with understanding of what you might be experiencing can ease your discomfort. I can offer gentle guidance if you are at a crossroad, a turning point or are feeling challenged by others in your life. Relationships are the most important things in our lives, yet often, the most difficult. Better communication skills can help.

We all experience stress in our lives, but sometimes that stress is overwhelming and we have trouble coping. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) can be an incredibly effective tool to help manage anxiety, depression, and other stress-related difficulties. CBT focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in everyday life. As a cognitive-behavioral therapist, my approach is collaborative, individualized, and based on scientific evidence.

I see children with anxiety, depression, trauma, selective mutism, low self-esteem, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder.
Making the decision to help a child or teen who is struggling academically, behaviorally, socially and/or emotionally may be the most important decision you make. I see each child/teen as a puzzle. Sometimes the pieces fit together perfectly and other times it is necessary to work really hard to find the right piece to complete the puzzle. I use a variety of techniques - play therapy, sand therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy. I believe that a child is part of a larger system, including parents, siblings, and schools. I strive to work with all aspects of a child's world.

Every day is the same. You wake up anxious, go to work on autopilot, and come home exhausted. Rinse and repeat. There must be more to life than this, you think. But you don’t know how to break free from this cycle. You see friends and coworkers breezing through life. They all appear blissfully unencumbered by the constant anxiety and depression that plagues you. The only conclusion you can draw is that you must be the problem. You decide there’s something inherently wrong with you that makes living with joy and ease impossible. So you resign yourself to your struggles. But sometimes you still wonder if there’s another way to live.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
