My ideal client presents depressive symptoms related to trauma & grief. They express that they want to process unresolved childhood issues. They express that the issues have prevented close relationships with their adult children. They want forgiveness and help in creating better ties. The goal may be to explore & resolve issues related to traumatic events and improve overall mood. Interventions may include sharing details of the event and how it has affected their relationships, using positive self-talk, developing positive coping skills, and identifying effective strategies to communicate thoughts and feelings.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked extensively in child welfare, foster care, and the courts. I am keenly aware of the impact of family stress, conflict, addiction, trauma, and mental illness across generations. Because of this, I am committed to providing high quality services to adults who are touched by these or related issues, such as challenging life transitions, relationships, or a sense that something is not right and needs to change. I believe that healing change is most likely to occur when people have a safe, creative, non-judgmental environment where they can practice new ways of seeing themselves and their experiences.

Have you experienced trauma? Do you worry excessively? Are you depressed? Has a loved one died and the loss is too much to handle? Do you avoid people & places because you're afraid? Are you dealing with issues around your sexuality & gender? Do you sense that something's "just not right" with your world, but you cannot put your finger on it? *If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, maybe it's time to try therapy?

I work with individuals, couples, and families providing therapeutic services. My job, in part, is to see clients advance their insight in therapy. With this development in treatment they may discover more effective ways to build their relationships, and in time, take steps to improve their lives. I encourage my clients to be open with themselves and those who they care about. I also suggest the importance of how they need to sustain their own mental health needs.

My practice is built on teaching and supporting people who want to; reduce and manage their stress-worry-anxiety, improve their mood to move toward their authentically happier selves, improve their relationships with family-friends-co-workers, are going through life transitions and want to use it to be better aligned with where they want to be in their life, manage the flood of events in the world that are impacting their thoughts and feelings, people who are hard workers and care for others but then find it difficult to have time left over for their own self-care on a regular basis.

Life can feel hard when our day-to-day energy is spent molding ourselves, masking and working extra hard at meeting the many demands and expectations that we ourselves, and others, place on us. Managing life in overdrive whether its due to our neurodivergence, trauma or unresolved and un-met needs can cause stress, emotional overwhelm, difficulty coping and relational challenges. We view human beings much like plants or dog breed -which every suits you best- each one with different needs, different environmental criteria, goodness of fit for others etc. Our work together will explore nurturing your unique needs!

Why do most people come to a therapist in the first place? Because they want a better life. It's a brave thing to do- to realize that you want more for yourself and to take the step to begin making that wish a reality. Sometimes people come to me with a specific problem, and sometimes just because they're tired of feeling disappointed with life. Whatever the reason, we begin the process by sitting down together and looking at what is bothering you.

We all suffer, and we all have to cope with it. I can help relieve people of suffering caused by maladaptive patterns of feeling, thinking and behaving that they have been conditioned to repeat over time. I do this by building a relationship with them, then allowing that relationship to be the template for healthy interactions in life and a realistic perception of themselves and their situation.

Existential Therapists
How does existential therapy work?
Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.
Is existential therapy evidence-based?
Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.
How long does existential therapy last?
The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.
Is existential therapy effective?
According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
