My sessions draw on practices from somatic psychotherapy, neuroscience, attachment theory, Brainspotting, and other body-based approaches to trauma.
Many come to therapy during threshold times, those moments during major life transitions that may be filled with grief, fear, or anxiety. I meet clients at this doorway and offer support, solace, and guidance as they travel from one phase of life to another. I specialize in providing pregnancy and postpartum mental health care, which includes those who have experienced birth trauma and reproductive loss. I also work with those moving through other life transitions including divorce, loss of a loved one, job changes, menopause, and cancer or chronic illness diagnosis.

Life challenges us with ups and downs – some expected and others not. These unexpected events or life transitions challenge our abilities to cope or understand our sense of self or purpose. At times we all need extra support to navigate these challenges. I welcome people dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief and loss. I also specialize in working with people born outside of the U.S. – on issues such as dual-identity, feelings of isolation or loneliness, the stress of adapting to varying cultural expectations, and inter-generational conflict and misunderstanding.

I am trained in Brainspotting and EMDR, certified in Advanced Trauma Treatment, have been practicing psychotherapy for eight years, and related fields for over 15 years.
We all deserve to feel safe and secure in our daily lives; confident and calm in our social interactions. So many of us suffer from life altering or traumatic events which create barriers from living our full potential.

Pierce takes special interest in Brainspotting and working with trauma. Brainspotting allows for deeper level processing through the body’s innate natural healing processes. Pierce believes we all have innate skills, but we are not always equipped to use those skills needed. Pierce’s number one goal is to create a safe space for those I work with while working towards the clients’ self-inspired goals. “All I ask is for you to come as you are and be open.”

Traditional talk therapy can be helpful in some ways however, emotionally overwhelming experiences are stored in a separate part of the brain-a place that is not accessed through language. Experiential therapies allow us to reprocess moments from the past in order to live freely in the present. As a certified experiential therapist, I am trained in EMDR, brainspotting, and other modalities focused on sensory-motor and somatic healing. Each therapeutic experience is individualized to meet the needs of the client or family.

Additional training in AEDP, Brainspotting, and CSRT.
Do you feel stuck? Or like you are caught on a treadmill, thinking you are going somewhere only to find that you are still in the same place emotionally? You are not alone. We are each on our own journey, attempting to do the best we can with what we have – and then life’s events happen to us. We can end up feeling entrenched in patterns of behaviors and thinking that are limiting and discouraging. You are NOT destined to remain bound by these cycles forever. My style of psychotherapy is deeply relational incorporating clients' emotions to bring forth experiential change.

We will use somatic techniques such as Brainspotting and mindfulness to help you process and heal unresolved trauma that affects both your mind and body.
Do you ever feel like you are highly sensitive or have trouble sorting through all of your thoughts and emotions? Is it hard for you to relax or find peace of mind? Do you ever feel so uncomfortable in your body for no apparent reason? Sometimes our prior negative experiences can stick with us, even if we thought we were "over it."

Brainspotting Therapists

How does brainspotting work?

Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.

Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?

Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.

How effective is brainspotting?

Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.

How long does brainspotting take to work?

A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
