My ideal client is anyone, from pre-teen to adult, grappling with the challenges of self-discovery, emotional expression, and finding their place in the world. They may experience anxiety, depression, or trauma, often feeling disconnected or pressured to fit into societal expectations. They could be neurodiverse, disabled, LGBTQ+, or straight and cisgender. I also work with military service members. My clients seek a safe, empathetic space to explore and embrace their authentic selves. Their goal is to better understand who they are, build self-acceptance, and navigate life's transitions with greater confidence and resilience.

Is your adolescent struggling with making good choices, experiencing anxiety, being bullied, or simply not thriving? When children enter school they may be exposed to new peer pressures, academic demands or uncertainty in their environment. Children tend to withdraw or demonstrate behavior changes when they are faced with challenges they don't know how to navigate. Parents often struggle with how to best support their child. This is where counseling for children, teens and college students can provide guidance in supporting a child's social, emotional and academic growth. Having a neutral adult relationship in their lives can help!

I often tell my clients that finding a therapist is like buying a new pair of shoes; sometimes you have to try on a few different sizes and styles before you find the best fit. My style is empathic and understanding, yet straight-forward and honest. I help my clients get unstuck and move forward, while providing feedback that is productive and manageable. You and I can work together to come up with ways to meet your goals for therapy, along with acquiring insight into your behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. I am a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Supervisor and my specialties include Eating Disorders and Trauma.

you are the one who keeps strong for everyone else, you make everything seem 'okay' with your incredible sense of humor despite the pain. maybe you have learned to keep safe by people pleasing or caretaking, yet you feel alone or like there are parts of you no one understands. you are intelligent, wise, creative, and social justice oriented. you recognize that trauma occurs on the personal and systemic levels, and you want to heal from your pain and understand the parts of your identity that hold privilege. the world needs your revolutionary mindset, you need a space to reckon with your personal, systemic, and ancestral trauma.

Hello. If you are considering psychotherapy, a good "fit" with your psychologist is essential. I have been a practicing clinical psychologist for over forty years. During that time, I have also been a psychology professor at Montgomery College. My theoretical orientation is a pragmatic blend of cognitive, humanistic, psychodynamic and behavioral, but I am also a firm believer in the value of positive psychology. I try not to diagnose people, but rather work with the entire individual, especially with their strengths. I am not the "silent, blank-screen" kind of therapist.

I have been working as a licensed therapist since 2016 but have been working with people for over 14 years. I have experience working with a diverse group of clients, with a wide range of treatment needs. Facing life’s difficulties can be overwhelming. I am here to provide a confidential environment where therapy is a collaborative process. It is my goal to help my clients gain the necessary tools to aid in healing and a positive mindset. It is my belief that mental health and physical health work hand-in-hand with neither one more important than the other.

As a clinical social worker for the last 25 years and a Health Coach for 11, I combine an integrative and holistic approach to emotional AND physical well-being. Therapy is a vessel for a client to reach and achieve their personal goals. I strongly believe that everyone has the ability to create, implement, and achieve their goals with the help and assistance of their therapist. I've worked in a variety of settings, including residential rehabilitation programs supporting individuals living with chronic mental illness, outpatient mental health clinics and social/emotional support groups for transition aged youth and young adults.

Grief is a deep sorrow we experience after we are faced with losses in our lives. These losses can be because of someone we knew and loved, or a life transition. These losses can be expected, such as a loved one dying from an illness, or sudden, such as someone dying by suicide. Regardless of the reasons for the grief, everybody grieves differently. It is important to also remember that loss and grief are not only the result of a death. Many people grieve due life changes such as the loss of a job, a marriage etc..

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
