I work collaboratively with individuals struggling with emotional difficulties due to depression, loss, and the crippling effects of addiction.
Do you struggle with negative feelings about yourself? Do you frequently compare yourself to others? Are you experiencing feelings of hopelessness and helplessness? Do you find yourself in chronic cycles of addictive behavior (overeating, binging & purging, alcohol or drug abuse, overspending. etc.) ? Are these addictive behaviors followed by feelings of guilt and depression? Are you easily overwhelmed? Are you feeling tired and discouraged? Are you suffering in silence with anxiety or visions of abuse? You no longer have to suffer. Emotional pain is an invitation to change!

You feel like your anxiety is getting the best of you and feel like you no longer have control over your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. You are noticing that even when you try to take a break and focus on yourself, that your breath catches in your chest and then you feel it…the anxiety. You have a difficult time sleeping at night because you worry about the course of events that took place that day and the laundry list of things you have to do tomorrow. Worries such as: “Did I make a mistake at work?” “What did that person think of me?” “Am I being a good Partner/Parent/Friend” swirl like a tornado in your mind.

Talking about your concerns, and feelings, can help reduce stress. You will appreciate having someone to listen to you and realize that you are not alone. Whether you are struggling with a difficult situation, adjusting to a major change in your life, grieving the loss of someone you loved, or just needing to make some personal changes. As a mental health counselor, I have assisted others as they work through and move on from their problems. It takes time but aren't you worth it? We can schedule your appointments based on your availability.

As a seasoned therapist, I have successfully helped clients suffering from a variety of issues: depression, anxiety, substance abuse/addiction, grief, trauma, overwhelming stress and emotions, relationship problems, etc. I use a comprehensive approach, blending different psychotherapy techniques with eastern wisdom and western philosophy, to facilitate a client's awareness of self and empowerment towards change. My clients gain the coping skills to conquer their issues and live happier, more meaningful lives. Prior to my private practice, I worked Inpatient Psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Center for five years.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
