Therapy can be a powerful tool to help people who have been struggling with anxiety, depression, and dissatisfaction. These struggles may have been recent, or they may reflect traumatic experiences or parts of our lives that have been problematic for many years. I work with adults of all ages--individuals and couples--to help them understand what has brought them to this point in their lives.

Have you been told ‘you’re fine’ even though you don’t actually feel fine? I get it. That’s because medications often mask symptoms and don't cure the root of the problem. I am a board certified nurse practitioner offering functional lab tests to help you change your life, not just your symptoms. Lab testing helps you uncover hidden nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, gut dysfunction and other possible factors that may be causing anxiety, depression, brain fog, and difficulty focusing. With a medically supervised plan and professional grade supplements you'll be on the road to really feeling fine. Compounding also available.

I have experience treating depression, self-harm, anxiety, relationship issues, grief and loss, legal issues, and child and adolescent school-related/academic concerns.
I work with teenagers and adults with anxiety, depression, school avoidance, self-harm behaviors and OCD. If you like the idea of speaking freely about your thoughts and feelings without being judged, if you like feeling completely accepted for who you are, without having to change anything about yourself, then you’ve come to the right place. Therapy is an opportunity to meet with someone who will accept and support you unconditionally. It’s a space where you can actually learn to stop judging yourself and to let go of thought patterns and beliefs that have been holding you back from experiencing inner peace.

Your worries, fears, and inner critic don’t have to be the boss of you.
Feeling scared and constantly on edge after a life-threatening event? Does it seem like worries are taking over your life? Are you feeling burnt out taking care of others? Perhaps you are a therapist feeling out of touch with why you ever wanted to do this. Maybe others see you as successful, but you secretly fear you will fall short of expectations (especially your own). Worry, anxiety, PTSD, burnout, or perfectionism have gotten in the way of living the life you want. You’ve lost touch with the things that bring you a sense of meaning and purpose. It’s not just you. Everyone gets stuck. I am here to help.

With many years of experience treating individuals and families working through Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Illness and Life Transitions, and with 8 years of specific and specialized experience focused on the treatment of Eating Disorders in young adolescents, I have now opened my own practice in the heart of Pikesville.
I received my Master's in Social Work, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 1999. I then trained at Jewish Family Services where I practiced for 11 years, seeing children, adults and families. In 2009, I began work at the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt where I received extensive training in the Maudsley Method/ Family Based Therapy Approach to treating Anorexia in adolescent patients and working with their families. Additionally, I have training in Sand Tray Therapy, a nonverbal modality that is helpful with the treatment of trauma as well as other concerns.

I generally enjoy working with clients working through self-esteem issues, anxiety, and depression. Typically they are looking for ways to reframe negative thoughts, identify triggers and cognitive distortions, and find a path to the best version of themselves. Many of these clients have struggled with these issues long enough to have experienced negative consequences and reduced life chances. We work to rewrite their inner script and learn to make choices that enhance their life.

I am a licensed, clinical social worker with an abundance of experience in working with various challenges one may face across a lifespan but a particular interest in working with adolescents and women. When working with teens, whether for addictions, adjustment problems or to ease transitioning from high school or college, family dynamics are considered and provide a valuable platform for successful intervention. Cognitive/behavioral or psychodynamic approaches are used to provide a successful outcome.

I love being a psychotherapist not because it’s easy, but because it’s a practice that opens my mind and heart and sense of being. I’m a thoughtful, imaginative, creative person who’s interested in the dynamics of our interior lives. What matters most in our relationships to ourselves and others often lies beneath the surface. I am the most interested in considering what is held deeply within the mind, sometimes beyond awareness, maybe vaguely, at its corners, or perhaps in repeating dynamics and patterns. People I have had the privilege to come to know intimately help me understand their experience of being human - and my own.

I understand that each individual is not an illness or label, rather a person with multiple contributing factors towards his or her distress and/or reasons that are his or her impetus for seeking help. For this reason, I try my best, as renowned psychotherapist Irvin Yalom puts it, to “create a new therapy for each client.”

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
