Hi there! Raise your hand if you describe yourself as an over-thinker. Perhaps you’ve felt paralyzed by indecision in your life- fearful about trusting yourself enough to make choices that worked for you. Maybe you’ve had difficulty managing stress in your daily life without fixating on every possible outcome that could go wrong. Perhaps you've had difficulty managing your racing thoughts. Maybe you have a hard time seeing the value you bring to your work and relationships. Your anxiety might feel like a weight around your leg that you drag with you into every social situation and you don't know how to keep it from pulling you down.

Welcome to Pathways 2 New Beginnings. My practice is specialized for individuals and couples who need support with coping skills, communication, life stressors, anxiety, and possibly a new direction in life. During our sessions, I will use a combination of CBT and SFBT, which focuses on a person's present and future circumstances and uses their strengths to work through presenting problems. During our initial session, I will help you develop a vision of your future and offer support as we determine the skills, solutions, resources, and abilities you need to achieve that vision successfully and resolve your presenting problem.

Congratulations on taking the first step in dealing with the issue(s) that may be affecting you. This is the first step in getting the necessary coping strategies needed for you to continue to move forward. I believe that all things have a beginning and an end. Everything in the middle of those two points is the walk that you must make in order to accomplish the goals that you set out to achieve. Together, we will meet your goals.

You had a vision for yourself and wanted to be living your best life. But you are thinking, “I don’t like how things are playing out right now.” Maybe you are feeling anxious, annoyed, your patience is short, and you are starting to feel depressed. It is possible that some unaddressed past issues are making their way into your present. It’s time to connect with someone who can help you get to know you better so you can understand why you are feeling what you are feeling and explore ways to help you heal. But the deal breaker is you also need someone who will respect your faith and your beliefs.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
