My goal as a therapist is to give people a safe space to be themselves. Life is tough sometimes, and having support is important to the healing and self-discovery processes. I learned through my own life’s challenges the value in having someone to be an accepting, empathetic listener who helps you unpack the bags that weigh you down.

Congratulations!, on taking the first step to healing and growth. The relationships that we have with our families, friends and peers etc., vastly impact the ways that we view the world and how we cope with our difficulties. As we experience difficult times in our lives, it is easy to feel alone and feel like others cannot understand. I seek to be a source of support during those times. Working to build healthy relationships is a joint effort. If you are willing to BELIEVE, you will begin to ACHIEVE and ultimately RECEIVE all that is meant for you. You have what it takes and I will support you all the way. HOPE is on the Way!

Rapport is critical for the therapeutic setting; without a positive connection, therapy is a difficult road. Therapists should provide a meaningful experience, which includes a safe place to share. I believe I need to provide a nonjudgmental environment to help healing. My role as a therapist is working with clients to improve their insight, identify triggers, manage life’s dilemmas and help them manage their symptoms. The goal is to help clients identify what is needed, be it, love, joy, peace, self-control, self-image and/or happiness, I meet my clients "right where they are" w/o judgment, but with clinical insight & experience.

Life can often feel overwhelming, and it is especially painful when we feel that we have to find our way alone. In our therapy sessions, though, we’ll find that way together with warmth and enthusiasm. I'm here to offer a supportive space where we can face life's curveballs head-on, working side by side to find your path through the tough times. Our collaboration will be real and human, focused on understanding and overcoming the obstacles that life throws your way.

My focus when facilitating groups or individual sessions is self-empowerment and challenging negative perspectives with more positive outlooks. Life can sometimes feel overpowering, and obligations that need to be met can also seem unbearable at times. Still, I believe there will always be some good in what may all seem bad at the moment. I have found my theoretical orientation - cognitive behavioral therapy has helped many of my previous clients reduce stress levels, cope with untimely life changes such as relationships and other losses, and ultimately feel more grounded within their circumstances. I look forward to assisting you!

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
