These are the ingredients of conflict in a relationship, and it sucks when you feel misunderstood.
People don’t change by themselves; they change in relationship to one another. That is what couples therapy is - - it is helping couples/relationships change with the changes. I help couples to develop the skills to talk about issues under stress that are vital to them. Couples therapy becomes effective as you apply new knowledge about yourself, your partner to break ineffective patterns of and develop new ones. Support you identifying the kind of relationship you want to build together. Plus help you get beyond what blocks you from becoming the kind of partner you aspire to be. Applying the knowledge you get from couples therapy.

I value building a safe, comfortable and collaborative working relationship with my clients.
Welcome to my practice! I was an ICU and ER nurse for many years before becoming a psychologist, and this experience gave me a unique understanding of the important role that healthy emotional functioning plays in our physical well-being and relationships. I specialize in the treatment of adults struggling with anxiety, heightened stress, grief, and interpersonal conflicts/crises. If attempts to resolve a personal problem have been unsuccessful or if conflicts in your relationship are ongoing, I seek to provide the personal support, insight and guidance needed to find a positive resolution, and the skills needed to live a healthier, more satisfying life.

Selecting a therapist is an important decision. I believe that creating an environment where the client feels that the therapist has listened, shown empathy, and has genuine concern are some of the core conditions for a therapeutic relationship. Providing a client with helpful feedback in this safe, empathic environment promotes change and growth. A client that I work with may have a variety of concerns including having a relationship issue, going through a separation, having parenting concerns, experiencing depression, anxiety, or problems related to alcohol or drug misuse or abuse. Please visit my website www.scottholzmanphd.com.

I believe that psychotherapy should be a safe and comfortable place for you to explore what changes you would like to engage in to lead a more satisfying and happy life. My role is to help you through that process in a collaborative way, by providing support, increasing your insight, and teaching you new skills.

I currently have openings in my practice and will contact you the same day. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help and taking the initial step of seeking therapy can be intimating and uncomfortable. I believe it is vital to quickly establish a trusting relationship built on mutual respect for meaningful therapy to take place. Through the practice of evidenced based therapies, I believe that helping clients build on their strengths while incorporating new coping strategies is the key to successful treatment outcomes. I strive to help clients clarify their life values in order to provide a firm foundation for action.

My experience includes working with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self esteem, stress, troublesome patterns, trauma, life transitions, maternal issues, and family conflicts.
There are times when we all require additional support; someone to accompany you in a time of difficulty or just to improve your sense of well-being. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey between therapist and client, exploring the client's inner world, developing insight, and simply deepening self-understanding using a compassionate and strength-based approach.

My experiences both in and out of the work setting are fairly broad so I feel I can address most issues clients present with. My style is engaging and supportive. I view our relationship as a partnership. I will spend the majority of our first sessions together listening to get to know you better. I believe that everything in our lives is interrelated, so at times I may let our focus move to whatever is particularly troubling to you that day. At other times, I may focus you back on the current problem we are trying to solve.

Meaningful personal growth and self-efficacy can be realized by any person, couple or family in the face of personal challenges. These can be internal (despair, depression, grief, anger, or anxiety), external (lack of supportive relationships, disharmony), and interactive (blaming, perceptions and reciprocal reactions to each other's behaviors). How well you manage to cope, survive and eventually thrive in the midst of these challenges can be aided by establishing a genuine collaboration with a competent therapist. Teletherapy makes it even easier to select and engage with a licensed counselor who fits your particular needs.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
