Any person who is ready to seek help can benefit from our work together. The world presents us with significant struggles, and the willingness to be open to new ways of interacting with your environment is the first, most important requirement to making positive change. A successful therapeutic relationship needs both the therapist and the client to be present in the therapy and committed to doing the necessary work. As your therapist, it is my role to help guide you through your progress, but the work cannot be done without you.

With the demands of everyday life, our own emotional demands can often go unmet- causing pain, discomfort, bitterness, and frustration. Taking a step back from the responsibilities pulling us in all directions to closely examine our emotions and relationships can feel impossible, uncomfortable, or even intolerable. But if you're interested in pursuing therapy, you may have already realized the discomfort of things remaining "stuck" is worth trading for the discomfort that comes with growth. If you want to make changes and don't know where to start, talking it through with an empathic therapist can help.

A quiet space to talk about feelings and life experiences can help when we are overwhelmed or stuck. The desire for inner peace and hope during turmoil often brings people to therapy. Traumatic experiences coupled with current life stress often take our energy and hope away. These need to be gently addressed in order to feel more comfortable in life. I respect that each person does this in his or her own unique manner. I also work with individuals who find their "golden years" may include depression, isolation, illness, grief and loss.

When you or a loved one is struggling it can be hard to know where to start in bringing about positive change. It may seem like the strategies you are using to make things better just aren’t working, which can lead to feeling stuck, hopeless and uncertain. I believe therapy should be a collaborative and safe space to work together on better understanding how your thoughts, emotions and behaviors interact, with the goal being to find strategies and solutions that help you to live a life consistent with your values. Specializing in eating disorders and co-occurring disorders, I particularly enjoy working with young adults.

Every stage in life, every situation we face, brings with it challenges, hardships and opportunities. The psychotherapeutic process brings focus and awareness to where we are now in our lives, where we've been, and the person we want to be. I see the therapeutic process as a journey that we take together. Whether you are an adult, adolescent, or family, my goal is to create a safe, caring, non-judgmental environment where you can explore relationship dynamics, patterns of behavior, identity, and opportunities for growth and change.

Are you feeling invisible? Angry about a breakup? Have you recently experienced a loss/death? Do you feel misunderstood? Are you experiencing more pain, burnout, and/or fatigue than normal? Does your adolescent need extra support? Is your family/relationship falling apart? If your answer to any of these questions is "Yes," or even if you have questions of your own, it may be time to reach out and talk through those thoughts and feelings. I would be delighted to be the person you reach out to.

I believe that psychotherapy is most effective when it is strengths-based: identifying and nourishing each individual's inner strengths in order to help them heal and develop new capacities for growth. Using mindfulness and body-aware techniques, as well as gentle mental exploration and traditional psychotherapy, I see my work as guiding individuals to unlock their own innate capacity to heal. I am also certified as a Nature-Informed Therapist and work to integrate the healing properties of the natural world into mental health treatment.

Hello and welcome! I primarily do individual work with children, teens/adolescents, and adults. Some areas I most frequently support clients with are: anxiety and panic, depression, adjustments and transitions, family change, identity, and academics. Therapy can be an intimidating process. How often have you pushed your mental health aside because life grew hectic; were told to “practice self-care” but aren’t sure what that entails; or been told to “just get over something” and you’re left feeling lost or overwhelmed? Being a human is challenging! We’re filled with complicated emotions that derive from our lived experiences, environment, family dynamics, personality, and genetics. My goal is to help you sort some of that out to relieve depression, anxiety, and interpersonal conflict.

Do you find that entering adulthood has brought new challenges and changes that are difficult to navigate? Perhaps you're feeling alone, scared, or overwhelmed when considering your future or even daily responsibilities. No longer having someone telling you what to do constantly can feel freeing, yet also terrifying. Maybe you're struggling with your relationships and want support to work through them. Suddenly friends are scattering and on different timelines than you or you're repeating the same conversation with your partner but nothing seems to change. You are not alone. I was once there too, and I can help you reclaim yourself.

Living has got to be one of the most exhausting things we do! You may have lost your sense of 'why' in your romantic relationship, as a parent, with sex, or in your career. I work with individuals and couples to address challenges in relationships, sexuality, experiences of trauma, and general dissatisfaction with the status quo. In our work together, we will take a look at the things that are holding you back from living the life you want to be living. I might also tell dad jokes. I probably will tell dad jokes.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
